InactiveSo in about two weeks time we should know wether the French governement goes ahead with this or not?
Would a block at the ISP level mean that French affiliates would only be able to make money from French speakers accessing their sites through the former French colonies (DOM)? Obviously that traffic wouldn´t really be worthwhile.

InactiveAny news about this?

InactiveThe law is still debated by French politicians. But there is a concern about the other text of this law (since the online gaming text was added to an another law which has nothing to do with online gaming, looks like someone… :shhh: ) made by the opposite party, they don’t like it, so the entire text may be rejected… but let’s wait for the end of the discussions (5th December).
What annoys me, is that an amendment has been proposed to offer the possibility to only some french gaming companies to go online… xhttp://www.liberation.fr/actualite/economie/219536.FR.php (french)
That may be a good thing for the future, however… :tooconfus

That´s classic prohibition, again. But the news about the opposition party is a good one.
Let´s wait until December 5th and see what happens. Some casinos realise that this could be a problem whereas some others (with French software for god´s sake!!!) seem to be totally unaware of this.

is the best.
You know why? Because that would be a direct violation of EU rules. If that happens it would be great for all because EU Commission will take immediate action and will force the French market to open completely. On that case the French Government will not have any arguments to apply exclusion rules.
The French Government has no chance here. With this kind of rules, they will only led to their market being completely opened to online gambling sooner.

InactiveI don’t understand why the land based casinos don’t open their own online casinos.
The reason of all this talking and trying to prohibit online gambling is that they don’t want the competition with the online casinos.
When the internet came out all the shops had to compete with the new online shops that came out all over the world.
Later all the big stores went online and made their own online shops.
Casinos that have an online version wouldn’t need to think of loosing players that rather stay at home to play instead of going to the casino.
In my opinion it is not the same if playing online or in a real casino.
Players will keep going to the landbased casinos just for being together with other people and the atmosphere of a casino. When TV cam out they was scared that nobody wents ot the cinemas no more. The same when videos came out.
When online shopping came out they was scared that nobody wents into their shops no more.
Shops are still open, cinemas are still open.November 30, 2006 at 11:45 am #717340Anonymous
InactiveWell but in Europe the question is not between land based gambling / online gambling, but rather between gambling monopolies / free market.
Gambling companies are mostly state owned ones, and they prohibit all others based on EU exception rules. From the moment France allows some companies that are not state owned, then exception rules don’t apply anymore, then gambling is completely free (online and offline).
Even if they remain with the state owned companies only, it is still arguable that they are abusing the exception rules.

InactiveUnfortunately everything mentioned has been well voted and it just need Chirac’s signature on it to become a law.
However a strong opposition has been heard so I don’t think this piece of sh#*t will last long. In anycase, for the time being: the law is active.

Other countries of the EU look to regulate online gambling (like Spain) so with Italy, UK and Spain – Germany and France will surely have to follow.
Let’s wait & see.

Ahaha for this time you Americans need help of us Europeans! :hehe:

vladcizsolMemberNope we Americans make up 80%+ of the market. I am hoping that when the software providers like Playtech and large groups like Party Poker see that they cant pin their hopes on Europe that they will come back to their senses and start working with US players again. We will all make a LOT more money that way and we can stop this masquerade.

:drunk2:Hem… you Americans always have the biggest huh!
Seriously I think there will have a positive outcome in Europe and it may drive back to US, if your next government is a bit more… *flexible*.

vladcizsolMemberThe only thing flexible in our current administration is their skulls (hollow heads).
I just hope we dont have to wait two years to get back to normal business.

InactiveSo does this mean that soon nobody will be able to make money transactions to online casinos in France like has been done in USA? If so, when?
It’s weird that not any casino sponsor is saying anything, as while the French market is not comparable with USA, it’s still one of the best in Europe.
