It’s starting to look like a world dispute.

Unfortunately some of the giants like prohibition.

Really, this is not a thing about gambling anymore. That just happens to be a big money industry.

It’s about free trade in general, and free trade on the internet in specific.

Some countries see an opportunity, and some see an infringement on their own specific trade.

Can there be monopolies in a free trade economy?

    I don’t think so!

It wouldn’t surprise me if the US also started a US only, state run gambling establishment which would directly feed Bush’s coffers!

I think they’re probably looking to start a monopoly as well, they’ve just gone the wrong way about it, in my opinion.

The French government are capable of the stupidest most draconian and idiotically beaurocratic laws imagineable – don’t put anything past them, and I say that as a Frenchman.

Difference is most people don’t pay much attention to laws in France, especially if they are ‘friendly’ with the millions of state officials.

That´s a worrying development. Do you have links to sources?

There will be a big bang over this at some point in the EU. Contrary to popular belief the EU has teeth and it will show them over this issue. I don´t think that member states can shield of their markets like that without consequences.

Hopefully they’re not going to be checking me at immigration when the All Blacks and supporters come over for the World Cup …

Does anyone have articles discussing this now? I wanted to start a French site so I need to know. By the way, would French affiliates risk having a .fr domain or would you go with an anonymous .com, .net etc.

I have heard rumblings about a European ban similar to that of America? Has anyone else heard this? If that is the case, we can kiss our industry goodbye!

No, the opposite is the case. The EU is challenging a number of state gambling monopolies by member states.

Thats ok, I am half French!

I have done a little more research, and it looks like Britain may be introducing licensing to the industry – a sensible move, and should be seen as a good move I think. In the long run, if you have a legitimate casino that is a UK registered company etc it will be easy to promote. I also think that in time, the USA will open up again though.

What about Malteese gaming license ? Malta is 100% member of EU.

True, but a British license would give an air of credability that cannot really be replicated by a license in another country.
