InactiveI decide who to promote based on how much money I make with them. If I’m able to make $10 every time I send a visitor to casino A, and I’m able to make $5 every time I send a visitor to casino B, then I’d be a fool to send traffic to casino B instead of to casino A just because casino A is linking to another affiliate site.
I don’t see how a casino website linking to an affiliate’s website has anything to do with “BS in this industry” or “cleaning up the industry”. Righteous indignation is a powerful attitude when there’s actual evil taking place, but I don’t think linking to an affiliate website is evil or unethical.
You have a website, and you can link to anyone you want to from there. So does the casino you’re going to refuse to promote. And you’re well within your rights to not promote that casino for that reason. But to talk about BS and cleaning up the industry in relation to this implies that this is some kind of shady practice, when really it’s just business. :hattip:

Great piece.

InactiveCan’t say I subscribe to this way of thinking myself. My thoughts:
1) The chances of someone you refer clicking a footer link back out are very slim
2) If they do, then they obviously don’t want to sign up at the casino they are at anywayAnd even if they did come back later, in some instances you’re cookie would have stuck, but it’s unlikely anyway.

InactiveWow, thank you guys so much for getting back on topic. This certainly isn’t one of the things that is ‘bs in the industry’, that was off topic.
Well, my introduction was, I will not promote a casino that does this, but you guys can discuss, because I think there is a good discussion to be had about this, I am on the fence but lean towards to not promoting this brand. The problem is, we are linking to this site, which gives them pagerank and search engine power, then they in turn take that pagerank and power and link to one (and only one, which makes it more powerful) of my competitors and I just don’t feel like this is professional. Are they allowed to do it, sure. Is it shady, not really, it just comes off as desperate and it turns me off.
Now, if a casino had a link section, or promoted several different places that they believe to be the ‘best online casino affiliates’ or something like that I would have no problem with that, but that footer link is the only external link on a page that gets thousands of backlinks, that is a powerful link.

InactiveI agree it would be a powerful link, but I don’t mind it because it’s entrepreneurial and if I could get one or two I would
Nice to have the option. Also worth noting in the case you pointed out, Onlinecasinosuite is #1 for “online casino” so that link also helps the casino as they are linking to an authority site. It’s clearly been done for an SEO benefit but we’re all in that game. More power to those that succeed
I certainly don’t see it as detrimental to what I do to the extent where I wouldn’t promote a brand because of it. If it’s a good brand, then not promoting it would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face :hattip:November 27, 2008 at 6:49 pm #788473Anonymous
InactiveI actually agree with just about everything you said Simmo, however, if there are other programs to promote that are just as good I will always choose the other one over the one that links to a competitor.

Inactivei’vr been reading all these posts, and its just a buch of bs. which one of you wants to make some money? yea…cool..be anal…aint it a waste of time or are you a feminist?
anyways, so many conversations go to waste. where is the gooner man?

LucretiaMemberit is in the footerlink and it medium grey so not very visable anyway.
the site that gets the credit for the backlink must be a good one and ….it is.
I have no problem with that unless clicks/dld ratios show abnormal #s.
that said, if there is a linkexchange page on that ABS site it probably has the same effect : some clicks will go to that page ; nothing in life is perfect………..

It’s tough to find a site that doesn’t link back to online casino suite LOL.We have 3-4 casinos linking back to us , in some cases they got BETTER positions on our websites because of the SEO value of the link .Many casinos have a link page for affiliates and i think it was goldenstarnetwork who use to run a link exchange service for affiliates.

stevejMemberWhy can’t people discuss what they want? I happen to like controversial topics. That’s where we normally learn the most (disagreement). Things aren’t always peachy. We don’t always agree. But if we chase out members who speak up, we have no idea what we will be missing. I remember when the CAP lost Steve Badger from playwinningpoker.com because people thought he was negative. I learned a lot from that guy and was sad to seem him ejected. He shared a LOT.
I don’t think attacking Luigi is fair. I enjoy his posts, negative or not, and whether or not I agree with them. I think it takes nerve to say controversial things in this forum because of the way people react. — Luigi did not make any personal attacks. If we attack people for their opinions instead of simply disagreeing, people will be more hesitant to post out of fear they will be ostracized.
What’s wrong with good old fashion disagreement and discussion?

Huh?????? We’re all saying what we think about the topic? I happen to think it doesn’t matter to me whether casinos link to sites or not. I strongly doubt that anyone will click on an aff link there, and I don’t care who passes link juice to whom. I don’t want anyone telling me who to link to either.
Others think differently and said so. What’s the problem with that? :tooconfus

I think that pretty much sums up my position on this.
I do, however, find SplinterFree’s comments more than a little perplexing – both the reference to making money and feminism seem utterly irrelevant to the topic at hand.
