Thanks to all who donated.. The money has definitely gone to a great cause :)

Also, I wanted to thank everyone for their feedback on the party as well as the event as a whole…

Prof I think next year is going to be more than double the size :)

Got back from Sydney yesterday and still feel really dizzy due to the jetlag and the hardcore trip back. It was an awesome event and I’ll definitely be back. Sydney is the place to be and the conference had just the right feel to it!

Thanks and props to everyone who made it possible :)

Alex super job getting it all together – I vote for CAP down under for next year.

Hey guys, everyone is back on deck and back to normal after CAP Downunder, so I thought I’d play devil’s advocate and offer some ideas/advice regarding CAP Downunder, to help make next year’s event even better.

1 – As this is a fairly new market, most of us affiliates don’t even know what Alex, Prof, Renee etc even look like, let alone all the other affiliate mangers who were present. I reckon it would have been awesome if at the beginning of each day, the CAP crew and other affiliate managers (ie not the guys who had stands, but the rest of the aff managers) were introduced to the audience so we knew who we were talking to during the breaks etc.

I managed to find an aff manager on the VERY last hour of the conference who I WISH I found on the first day, we had a LOT of ground to cover, but it was almost too late.

2 – Perhaps a little research into the speakers. Not going to name and shame here but there were a couple of SEO speakers who were WAY out of their depth (one guy didn’t even know what a ‘white label site’ was). You should assume that your CAP followers are a lot smarter than these guys gave us credit for. After all, this isn’t a seminar for muppets, this a conference for people who ‘make a living’ out of this biz, so they know the difference between a paid link and a key word rich article.

3 – Cheesy introductions. I know this sucks and everyone will slay me for this, but a simple run around every morning “Hi, my name is Adam, I own a pokies site called http://www.pokiesecrets.com and I’m here to see what I can hit next year”….this would have helped make introductions and networking sessions a lot more profitable for all of us. I sat with a guy who makes 5 figures a month, yet he was a shy dude, so didn’t speak to anyone. I’m sure there are aff managers who would LOVE to have had 10 mins with this guy to discuss his sites and promo….but he was shy and probably didn’t talk to a single manager. Opportunity lost.

I hate to be ‘ragging’ on the the gig, it was awesome, don’t get me wrong (Damon, you have no idea how many times I have quoted you since I got back to NZ and my new site is going to be a pokernews.com partner for sure) but I thought it was such a great opportunity that most aff managers and affiliates almost missed out on.

I’m going to be sitting front row centre again next year, had a fantastic time. Greg and Renee did fantastic jobs hosting and it set a good benchmark.

Most valuable session for me was Damon and the guy from Crown Poker, I don’t even have a poker site (yet) but this has inspired me, also the Bingoport guy, amazing.

Anyway, my 3c worth, for what it’s worth :)

I think this is what the name tags are mostly used for..
I guess a lot of people don’t want everyone to know what they look like… but pics of Alex and Lou can be found on the CAP Euro sites..

BTW you can usually find who Alex is by looking for the chook running around with its head cut off :P

I think the issue here was that the guy in question was not an online gaming SEO guy, but a general SEO guy… So I think if you had explained what a white label site was, he would have likely been able to give you a better answer..

I think the other thing to remember is that there are quite a lot of people who are just starting too, so having that guy, as well as the SEO Panel (which was more for asking questions) is kinda what distinguishes between the two…

In hindsight this may seem logical, and for us aff managers would be a godsend, but considering that next year will be twice the size I don’t think this is practical.. You’d need days to do this.. and a lot of people don’t want anyone to know who they are.. So I think there would be a lot of people bailing on the idea altogether – might scare some people away…

I think one thing they did in Barca which I thought may have been a good idea for Oz was to have the day before as the setup day when people arrive to the hotel so that people could sit around and have drinks and meet people.. I know I met a lot of people that day that I didn’t get to see the rest of the conference and think that’s probably something pretty valuable apart from the networking parties.

I think a great thing about this conference being so small was that people were able to talk to a lot more people at the parties than at the euro conferences…

One thing I would have changed though is the days that the conference falls on – the beginning of the week in Sydney is dead in terms of the night life and I know I had a hard time trying to find places to go on Tues and Wed nights (other than the casino of course).. especially since I don’t actually live in Sydney. I would probably have changed it to maybe Wed/Thurs/Fri or something like that.. maybe Thurs/Fri/Sat.. on those days a lot more stays open later.. especially the ‘less dodgy’ places ;)

I don’t think you ragged at all, in fact I think you gave some pretty valuable feedback for the guys at CAP and Alex for next year.. I think being the first conference down here it’s hard to know what to expect from attendees too.. I mean compared to the Euro conferences there weren’t nearly as many people and as you mentioned above, it is a pretty new market..

For the euro conferences I would assume that about 70% of the attendees are the same each time, so you can get a pretty good idea of who will show up, what their background is etc and be able to choose the speakers based on that.. I didn’t know about 75% of the affiliates who came to this conference, so if it were up to me, I probably would have gone down the same track as Alex and the guys did regarding speakers.

Perhaps something to improve for next year – on the registration form or previous to the event, might be a good idea to ask attendees how long they have been in the industry and what type of speakers they would like to see…

IMO, the other biggie here is that since we’re so far away from the rest of the world, I imagine it would be pretty hard to get an international expert to fly down for a couple of days to talk to an audience so small..

So everyone start saving for next year! It’s going to be bigger and better than ever!

So, Alex, when are your pics from CAP Down Under going to be online? :santa2:

Thanks for asking the question most everyone wants to know. I’m usually the one who asks the tough questions, as witnessed at CAP Down Under. I’ve put Jeff Fenech and I up on our website, but we need more than that!
