InactiveThanks for the information Casinomeister and fintan.

I will apply for the trademark today. I was going to do it before, but then UIGEA hit and I wanted to wait to see how that turned out.
I may as well do the European Trademark as well because if I ever leave the US then I’ll be headed over there for sure.

biggygMemberi got email from lawyers at universalstudios few months back because i owed a domain with universalstudios in the name ,they own the rights to universal studios trademark. They demanded it and pretty much had no choice but give it up .So probably if playtech ,microgaming etc wanted to they can do same wih any domains that have their names in them.Great for seo but one day ‘borrowing’ some other persons name may bite you in the a$$.I agree with casinomeister you should register a trademark to your name .

InactiveYep, that is the best thing to do so I put hubby on that project. lol
Another thing has gets on my nerve is that I’ve noticed several casinos that use my brand name in their SEO meta and description. All of my sites still come up in top positions for the term, but I have a problem with those that use (what I consider to be) blackhat techniques in order to rank under my brand.
I’ve collected a link list that I hope to get to one day where I contact them asking them to remove my brand name from their titles and URLs, but I’m not sure how much it will help or if it’s even worth the effort. :sarcasm:

GuestHi all, (Gam),
my understanding about the purchase of a domain works like this:
if the domain you’re seeking to purchase has an opportunist approach then you could easily be sued by those who have the true right to that name, and they’d win.
if the domain you’re seeking to purchase has a generic approach then you have every right to purchase it, use it to full possible advantage and answer to nobody for your actions because nobody can claim trademark to such domains as casinogambling.com, casino-gambling.com, etc.
anything with keywords in it would be a generic approach (best term I could think of to call it).
so you couldn’t buy a domain like sluttyslots.org because if I already owned the .com and had it branded to any extent .. ( I kinda like that name, wonder if its taken? … Yep.) then I could likely sue and win (actually it probably wouldn’t be allowed to get that far).
But you could as mentioned buy casino-gambling.org with all confidence of not being bothered by anbody claiming trademark infringement.

InactiveI got a similar mail lately.
I think if you don’t have a trademark there’s nothing you can do.August 4, 2008 at 2:41 pm #774557Anonymous
InactiveHi guys,
Definately a con, but an eye-opener as well.

Good advice bb1!
Thanks for reminding me to check up on my trademark. I know that we submitted the paperwork, but I need to follow up.
