InactiveI believe that is a scam email you received. The company just wants to register domains through them.
Can anyone else add to this?

Hi Jamie,
You may be right as I was just about to buy the names myself. LOL
I asked them to call me as I’ve not researched the two companies yet, but will do that now.

InactiveAre they going to buy gamtrak.com or gamtrak.whatever. But gamtrak.whateve is a useless domain. They want to milk you a little bit hoping to find an ignorant victim. This guys sent me the same e-mail about 3 months ago, I have adviced them to get lost. :3eyes:

voodoomanMemberThis may be a scam. Somebody in Britain once contacted me via email notifying me that one of their clients was wanting to register my business name in South Africa as a .co.za domain.
It turned out that they were trying to get me to purchase this domain name through them at some highly inflated price. I did a quick domain check and my business name was still available. I purchased it locally at a fraction of the cost.

InactiveThank you all for the replies.

I appreciate the feedback. I’m going to contact the company that supposidly wants to buy it then deal with the domain registrar once I figure out if they are scamming me.

antoineMemberHi GamTrak,
We received a similar e-mail message about 5 months ago and they were very persistant.
This is what we said to them “We are not sure if your company is legitimate. For the protection of our company, please give me all the information needed to contact your head office. We will be investigating your company.” We did not hear back from them after we sent this message.
GamTrak, we just wanted to let you know that you were not alone in receiving this e-mail.

InactiveThanks CCJ,
That is exactly what I will do.

InactiveWhile it does seem like a scam, they can still do it. Hence why you see rakeback.org, rakeback.com, rakeback.net, casino.ws casino.com casino.ca etc etc, all owned and operated by different people.

voodoomanMemberIt would cost a small fortune to purchase all your potential “marks” domain names. It must be a bit like marketing online – out of 100 clicks / “marks” you may get 3 sign-ups.
All good short domain names are taken early. This is not related to any form of scam.

Really? I’m going to have to look into that more closely as I feel it would be very harmful to the original owner of the brand name. It just doesn’t seem right, but that’s not to say it’s not possible.
I agree that it’s not possible or feasible to buy all of the domains in other languages, but grabbing a few can’t hurt for future expansion and to prevent other from buying them?
I had a webmaster or someone claiming to be ask me if they could purchase the gamtrak domain and build a dutch website and I told him that I was not interested at the time, but he has been very persistant for two months so I put him to work on another task at my forum and he dissapeared. :sarcasm:

JtnktnzxMemberI should mention that they have contacted me as well – and I pissed them off by purchasing a couple of the names on my own via Godaddy

I told them that Casinomeister is trademarked and protected by international treaties – anyone picking up a Casinomeister domain is pretty much obligated to hand it over to me.
He called me “unprofessional” and “unethical” – I told him to stick it up his ass.
When I get a spare moment, I’ll be reporting them to ICANN.
Word of advice, Gamtrak – if you haven’t already, apply for a trademark to protect yourself from unscrupulous opportunists:

VdpcevnjMemberJust too chime in, I get an email from these guys once a week (I’m a domain name junkie and think someone should start domianers anonymous) and its a pure scam.
Anyway, your second question states, “Can an international company or anyone buy a domain with the brand name that is my company business name?”
From what I understand this will depend on the rules operated by the registry for the tld, but in general yes they can.
To defend your trademark across all tlds you would first have to have been granted the trademark protection for every country for the tld eg if your disputing a .co.uk, you would need a UK trademark etc
This becomes very very expensive very quickly and is really only viable for big corporations with very deep pockets such as Microsoft, Coca-Cola, McDonalds etc
So the moral of the story is be pre-emptive and try and register domain names for the TLDs you think you could possibly need for the next 10 years.
Also just to throw in a link, CasinoMesiter linked to USPTO which looks after trademarks in the US, here is the website for the European Trademark website http://oami.europa.eu/en/default.htm using one application form you can apply for a trademark in every EU country (rather than apply in each country seperatly).
