vladcizsolMemberGuys while its highly unlikely the officers of Bodog would want to appear in a US Court there is absolutely NO REASON they have cant legal counsel represent them.
We have attornies which represent our interests in several countries. Via power of attorney or retainer they are authorized to speak and act on our behalf.
Bodog can afford legal representation in the US.
I think they believed that being offshore meant they could ignore US courts. That was a very costly mistake.

InactiveTrue, of course.
Now if someone sued me because I use this patent by having free games on my site, would I panic? Wouldn’t I think it was a ridiculous suit and would never get anyplace?
Anyway, you are right, they should have paid attention.
And now, it’s definitely got their attention.

InactiveI think they just didnt take Molnick seriously. Like Dom alluded too I read an article somewhere that “Crazy Molick” was in Vagas making legal threats a year ago and they laughed at him. I tend to believe Bodog just didnt take him seriously, until the DNS was changed. I am surprised they didnt at least send an attorney to answer his complaint though. You bet they will now.

vladcizsolMemberDom you are much smarter then that.
If a legal action is filed against you, civil or criminal, you can’t just poo poo the whole thing because you dont believe it has merit. If you do that and dont defend yourself you can land in jail or find you are hammered with a $48 Million Judgement.
Unfortunately this type of goofy television outlaw bravado of “The feds will never get me!” is why we are having the troubles we are in this industry.
Many operators bought into that same line of thought. “They will never pass a law restricting online gambling, the American people wont stand for it!” or the equally assinine “Oh sure let them try to enforce this. The internet is too big!”.
As a result of that dismissal they didnt fund the lobbying efforts that would have prevented the market implosion that we are in now.
The same mindset is probably what got Bodog’s ass into a sling.
I hope we all wake up and take the threats against us seriously and fight the legal battles that come up and vigorously oppose legislation that damages our position.
This is another wake up call for everyone. Its sad for Bodog that they are the focus of this particular action, but I hope EVERYONE learns from it.

PatrickMMemberThey ignored this issue from almost a year ago. An expensive lesson learned the hard way.

To be fair, his “catch me if you can” attitude hurt a lot of people and it can be argued that his attitude accelerated the whole process.
Addendum – He also brought the spotlight on to a lot of operators in Kahnawake and Costa Rica who had to move their entire operation.

InactiveWell said Prof.
You don’t work a gray market by making a lot of noise. You don’t mess with the US government, if you have yourself or your assets in the US. In this case bodog must have forgotten that ICANN is in the US and will follow court orders from the US.
They should have been Bodog.ws or .tv.
hey whoever may have those domains, should get on the horn to calvin.

Mine updated last night. I logged in at the new URL last night and again this afternoon: https://affiliates.newbodog.com/affiliates/Main
You do need to change your affiliate links, if you haven’t already. For example:
Old: xhttp://www.bodog.com/welcome/0000000/
New: xhttp://www.newbodog.com/welcome/0000000/
(0000000 is where your own affiliate ID would go).

Perhaps that’s it right there, it didn’t dawn on them that they had assets in the US. ..

InactiveThe fact that they missed 2 court dates is one of the core issues here. They could of had a local US attourny show up and at least represent them, by doing so they did indeed thumb there noses and judges hate that.
Having the second court date moved to Washington state was also a stake in the heart knowing their feelings about online gambling. Having this take place one week before NFL season starts was a brilliant move by 1st.
Where 1st is not so brilliant is that domain now goes nowhere, Bodog has spent millions, prop 10’s of millions Branding this domain and doing a fantastic job of it, they should at least put up a splash page promoting something with all the type in traffic it gets.
Dom i think this will hurt them quite a bit as branding was their foremost strategy.
For us the most important thing is go to the site http://www.newbodog.com and sign in the aff with your original account and get your new links. Also banners being served from their old site no longer function.
Good luck all!

InactiveYeah I was thinking about that as well. If that domain was meant as compensation and an asset to make up for the outstanding fine then they should start monetizing that domain sooner rather than later.
