Yeah, right…the government can and does tell you what to do – it tells you you have to wear clothes, it tells you in your own home not to do drugs, have sex with minors, gamble for money at your own home (playing poker with your buddies for money is illegal, BTW) and many other things…:terms:
Let’s all hope the bill will not pass, but with so many people from the industry talking about alternative methods, I start to wonder they have given up on greasing the wheels…

the folks from the US are notorious for not allowing anybody to come into their home and dictate anything.

I know I feel very strongly about such, and I think most others are same.

Yes its true we’ve allowed our freedoms to be whittled away, but I think what many fail to add into the recipe is the American’s nearly infinite ability for apathy is not to be mistaken for their willingness to give in to pressure from the govt over a matter which (I think) nobody is going to truly take serious until such time that a few people are given serious sentences for having broken the law.

At which time (I think) people will start to realize that they can’t just stick their heads in the sand without either giving up a favorite hobby or risk being the next martyr to go before the chopping block. Thus the people’s mood will be made to be known to their elected officials and then I imagine they’ll start the process to make it legal and regulated but in the meantime I just don’t see it ever becoming an offense where they’ll come to your house and drag you out to be incarcarated.

and if you are allowed to access websites that tell you how to make bombs, drugs or perform abortions (don’t ask, I don’t know if they exist, I’m just shooting from the hip … but I’d bet they do) then they damn sure better have a better excuse for keeping me from accessing a gambling site than the ones they’re giving now.

I think the public would raise all sorts of hell about any kind of censorship.

    my 2cents.

There will be no riots. There will be no outcry.

The non-gambling internet illiterate sheep will be lead away from the evils of online poker by the politicians and think it’s a good thing …

after all they’ll be told that’s what they should think and these people are still the vast majority of Americans.

    Baaaa Baaa …

It will be up to each of us to do the outcry from our sites, we sure as hell cannot hope the press will relate our side, they tell one side only, the news is so full of one sided politics I don’t even bother to watch it anymore!

I think americans are yelling from the roof tops and saying NO BAN!

The problem is not if we would be able to continue to do what we do – my sites are hosted on UK server as it is (plus, .com is not US domain only), we would just loose the US market – the bread and butter…

I dont think that anybody would raise hell if the bill passes, but us. We might get a little support because of the “freedom of Internet” in general, but I dont believe that any other Internet industry would be upset if gambling becomes illegal – at the end we are the most hated industry on the net – even porn does not produce the amount of spam we do…
