I’m not sure how everyone else feels about this,

but I always use absolute URLS in my a href tags.
eg
http://www.sitename.com/poker/
not
/poker/

and do you have an xml sitemap? I wasn’t able to find one.

Yes I’m sure there was one because I needed it to put the google search feature in, not sure where it’s gone..

Obviously niching is where it’s at these days for most portal owners, and it does quite well in certain niches (mostly ‘free slots’ unfortunately) however it gets 0 (zero) traffic from ‘online casinos’ or ‘uk online casinos’ etc. Now these are some of the most competetive keywords online and practically impossible to rank for for a new site but surely with the domain ‘online-casinos.co.uk’ and the fact it is 11 years old it should get it a little traffic at least?

I’d like to be adventurous and have a real good go at ranking for these terms, my question is twofold – 1) is this a complete waste of time and 2) how would you go about it?

I’ll give you a hint or two
1) Is an online casino “IN’ anything? is it in UK US Canada?
2) you have all your pages linking to your main page , right? IS you keyword phrase of the main page “HOME”? because that’s what you’re liking to it with
3) If you’re looking for UK players why not have links to to other pages with keywords like

Online Slots Machines UK
Play Online Roulette UK
Play Online Blackjack Uk
ETC

The homepage, before updating, has recently been getting traffic for ‘how to choose an online casino’, so I decided to capitalise on that and this is the end result:

Ah good point, hadn’t noticed the title had not been updated.

It has had about 15 searches for that term in google recently according to analytics, though nothing for the last week.

The CMS is a real pain, I’ve never got used to it or really figured it out properly. I prefered the days of just knocked up a basic page in html where tables were the most complicated thing you could add!

Yup, I just about give up trying to understand Google now. Nearly every day it plucks a new phrase out of the air and decides one of my pages should be top, I get a couple of hundred hits, make the relevant page nicer and up to date then the next day it’s moved onto another page and the old one goes back to the doldrums. WTF

At least it’s visiting and ranking the site, even though I have no idea how or why!
