    PREDICTION :

    USA
There will be ZERO change or clarification in the legal status of online gambling in the US during 2009 as Obama and his cohorts will have their eyes firmly fixed on trying to revive the mainstream economy instead – and online gaming will continue to be marginalised by piecemeal federal and state actions that don’t make too much sense (eg Kentucky).

    EUROPE
In Europe there will be a continuation of mixed messages, with some nations trying to protect and restrict online gaming, while others will open up their markets by licensing and taxing.

The European Parliment will continue to stand by and pontificate loudly about not restricting access to markets – but will do NOTHING in real terms.

    I think…

    • Malta will consolidate its position of the new online gambling center.
    • No Government of the World will spend much time with online gambling giving the actual economic conditions they have to face
    • US will not spend much time trying to legislate online gambling but they either won’t spend much time attacking it
    • Giving economic conditions, it won’t be an easy year for the economy as a whole, and to online gambling in particular, with some companies disappearing

…but, hard times are good to develop partnerships between who stays and to become stronger, and maybe some governments may look to online gambling as good means of new revenue, and try to regulate it.

    My Predictions for 09

    1. George W Bush will be pulled over for drunk driving in Texas, and will be officially “off the wagon”

    2. 2009 Hurricane season will be the worst in years, with 10 major landfalls, 3 in the panhandle of florida, and 2 hitting the New York area.

    3. San fransisco will have a major Earthquake, 7.0 or higher sometime in May

    4. Steve Wynn will buy up a few Online Casinos and start marketing them in LasVegas, and this will be the beginning of Legal online gambling in the USA.

    5. Donald Trump will finally get rid of the rug!

6.The USA will pull out of Iraq, but then Iran and Iraq will join forces and threaten peace throughout the middle east.

I think Las Vegas will be seriously looking at online gambling to create revenues that will replace what they lose to the bad economy and people’s reluctance to travel.

There will be initial opposition from the Indian gambling places in the US, but eventually they will hop on and ride with the times. They can hold online tournies and will have the advantage of being local and giving away full trips to their casinos to locals, including shuttle or Limo pickups. Who can resist a comp like that?

I doubt anything will happen next year in that regard, but the year after I bet the offline gambling industry will push for it.

When they are ready to enter the market they will partner with existing software companies as well as develop their own games. They will definitely use affiliates. Affiliates are THE established online advertising venue.

I think the internet will boom and travel will become both more expensive and less trouble. The skies in the US and many other places are pretty much full of planes to the limit, growth is not really possible. The internet and electronic meetings will become prominent – not so much next year but as a trend for the future.

Shopping online is getting more popular every year and next year will be no different. I think the economic downturn will help the web, no waste of gasoline or time.

Baby boomers are retiring in increasing numbers over the next decade, they are computer savvy and they will spend lots of time on line.

The more people spend time online, the more people will look for entertainment online.

My prediction for the future in general concerning the web is: You ain’t seen nothing yet!

I think in the second quarter of 2009 we will see positive movement in the financial and real estate markets due to new policies put in place by the new administration. The key factor will be consumer confidence which should improve greatly and lead to a rebound.

Once the economy stablizes and people lose their fear of what’s coming next we should see people increase gambling online and offline. This will stablize the Las Vegas/Atlantic City economies and rejeuvenate the industry stateside.

By the third or fourth qurater of 2009 I expect to see legislative changes which move us back in the direction of personal freedom. This will include a more favorable view of online gaming and less draconian measures that we see now. Larger casino groups will most likely start the migration back into the US at that point and affiliates should be in a gold rush position.

I think there will be some more economic trouble in the start of 2009. Not sure what exactly, but I have my suspicions.

For one, I think the auto industry will fail, even after receiving federal funds. This is the most likely factor to keep things down for a while to come (although this may be delayed a few years and not have an effect in the near future).

I believe it won’t be until the end of 09 that true economic recovery will start. Even then, the markets may rally and the dow could even hit 10,000 again by the start of 2010, but I think there will be some sideways growth for the 2010-2012 period. This caused by the damage that has already been done to the economy.
Online Gambling will be on the backburner unless big money shows interest, which is a possibility given the fact that their profits have already been hit and they are surely looking for anything that will help boost revenues.

After 12 years the US will have in april 2009 their first federal law ruling the online pharmacy biz, so my guess is that in some way gambling is on the road. When and how is unpredictable, but the experience shows that is near to impossible to ban an online biz, if the industry is already a part of the online life.

I beieve we will see the first steps in the USA seperating into different countries at the end of 2009. Not actually happening but a strong movement to seperation to begin sometime in 2010

Wow some of these predictions are very specific indeed, especially the exact number of hurricanes, if that comes true I’ll be impressed and scared!

I think 2009 will economically be absolutely horrible so it’s a case of battening down the hatches and trying to get through it as best we all can. 2010 Q1 will see some recovery in the US and Europe which will hopefully mean that the UK will start to recover in 3rd quarter 2010.

I also predict and very much hope and pray, that Liverpool end their 18 years of hurt and win the premiership title. :)

A call for predictions? Cool! How about:

    1. The Yankees make the 2009 World Series but lose to, say, the Dodgers.

    2. Barack Obama will spend most of 2009 making no discernible changes, no notable peace efforts, no improvement to the economy … all will in fact spend much of his first term as president handcuffed. Can you say “Carter II?” Oh, and no changes to the state of gambling prohibition in the US.

    3. On the other hand, the industry situation in some CEE countries, particularly Hungary, which mocks every major sociopolitical move the Czech Republic makes these days, will improve.

    4. US not out of Iraq by December, and war in Afghanistan escalates.

    5. Lakers take the NBA championship.

    6. Heath Ledger wins the Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars in 2009, but doesn’t in 2010.

    7. Tottenham Spurs avoids relegation.

    8. Mass suicide of female science-fiction fans on Christmas Day in the UK when David Tennant finally relinquishes lead role on BBC’s “Doctor Who.”

    9. CSKA Moscow does not take the Euroleague championship, probably bowing to Real Madrid again some time before winning it all.

    10. LiveCasinoDirect.com takes the Best Affiliate Program at CAP London in January 2010, and the Os Man’s speech upon receiving the award for his company goes down as a Wildean-level event in CAP history.

Have a great year, everyone, and remember, i’m deadly accurate in all predictions except those regarding sports, politics or the weather.

    Cheers,

    Os.
