InactiveEverything fine here in Southeast Florida. Never even got any rain.

InactiveHi Jeff,
I am speaking with Lou by phone right now. Lou and his family are okay. Orlando sustained damage from winds of 100 miles per hour. Right now Lou does not have internet access. Lou says hi to all and wishes all well in Florida.August 14, 2004 at 4:04 pm #653402Anonymous
InactiveThat’s good to hear.
Thanks for letting us know, Captain.

InactiveI tried to get in touch with Dennis (crapsrus) this morning, but no one answered the phone. Hope Dennis and Brad are okay, as well as others that live in Florida.

vladcizsolMemberThanks Guys:bigsmile:
Well Orlando is pretty messed up and they estimate damages at $15 Billion right now and I wouldnt be surprised if those numbers dont rise. The good news is there were very few casualties most everything lost was property and not people. All my trees got knocked down and we lost the gutters, so we arent in too bad of shape
One of my rental homes lost a portion of the roof, but the others were ok, thank god.
I am one of the few lucky ones to have power at my house, but the internet is down so I am up at a Kinkos that I found open. I will tough to reach for a few days, but I will do my best to check in here daily.

InactiveI am glad your damage is relatively minor.
I hope all other Florida members are ok too – and I hope they check in soon!

InactiveProfessor, your high spirits during a major crisis are inspirational!!!!
I wish everyone else the same strength throughout the cleanup, and when it gets too hard – remind yourself you are still alive.
From what we are hearing in Australia, there were 13 or 15 casualties?
Know you are in our thoughts & prayers Floridians.

vladcizsolMemberHere is what my friend emailed me this morning. He lives about three miles from me.
I have no idea if, or when, you may get this, but it’s worth a try.
My power just came back on 45 minutes ago. Been out since 9:15 Friday
thanks to Charley. And God, I’ve never loved A/C so much! With no power and no phone for two days it’s been tough getting any news, so
I have no idea how hard you area was hit. Our entire subdivision, and all
those close by, look like a bombed out war zone. I lost over half the
shingles on my roof and have a little water damage inside, lost about half
of a 65′ tall Sycamore tree, a quarter of another Sycamore tree, and about
1/2 the fence in my backyard. Charley snapped the 4″ x 4″ fence posts off
right at the ground level. Also lost a good portion of all my
landscaping — the most expensive plants, of course.Power was off just long enough that I lost everything in the refrigerator
and the freezer I have in the garage. Had one hell of a BBQ today though.
BBQ’ed almost all the meat that was in the freezer and passed it out to all
the neighbors. Figured that was better that just watching it rot.All of that being said, we actually fared better than most around here.
Some houses lost most of their entire roof (sheeting and all) and other have
houses and cars crushed under trees.August 16, 2004 at 11:44 am #653441Anonymous

I haven’t heard much about all this on the news lately, just a little segment on the night it happened. Keep us posted.

InactiveHello everyone,
Wow what a storm……….it hit me hard! 🙁It looks like a bomb went off at my place. I was with out power for 4 hours not bad but I had 5 large oak trees come down. One on my Explorer smashed the front windshield and hood. I had it in my garage that is not finished yet. It only has block walls up.
I thought by putting my cars in this concrete walled area that if a tree fell the walls would block it……..wrong! The tree fell inside the middle.
My 500 foot driveway had three large oaks fall across. It took me all day Saturday and Sunday to cut my way through so I could get out.
Phone is still down. No computer connection.. that sucks!
Other than that I am fine.As far as Brad (Talkcasinos) His is still without power, a little tree damage. He has no computer connection and is about to go crazy!
He is on roadrunner and all the cable in his area is down. He said he called LOWE’S to see about buying a generator and they said they just got 40 in this morning. He jumped in to his truck and went down there…..he bought the next to last generator. He said everyone had a generator hanging out the back of their cars and trucks.
So he has temp power for now, but not to have power restored for another week.
He has a little window air-conditioner in his computer room with no computer connection…..
Other than that everything is good!I will have pictures later.

InactiveI was worried about you guys, Dennis and Brad. Glad to hear you are alive and kicking, albeit having lots of problems to deal with.
I only lived through one major storm, it landed a huge tree right next to my house, so close that the smaller branches whipped the paint off the house.
It scared the dickens out of me and I lost half of my roof too.
So I can relate – it is an absolutely overwhelming experience.
I hope the cleanup is smooth and you will all have access and power again soon!
