Agree or disagree: It’s to an affiliate’s best interest to build a strong relationship with the affiliate managers he or she works with to maximize ROI with the program?

Great article shared today on the blog outlining what affiliates should look for in the affiliate managers they’re working with: Affiliate Managers Wanted: Smart, Able, Efficient Need Only Apply.

What do you look for with the Affiliate Managers you work with? What are the most important characteristics and qualities a relationship manager must possess for you?

I make it a point of touching base, meeting or chatting with affiliate managers, and when it comes to promoting programs, I do it 2 ways – either by reputation, or by the strength of relationship I build with the Affiliate Manager.

    1. Honesty
    2. Timely communication
    3. Keeping their word
    4. Going to bat for you.

Each one of these are important in my opinion. One of the worst things an AM can do – is place you on side burner and think of you as a number. So many Am’s do this. They get so busy and cannot keep up and prioritize the wrong way.

    1. Am’s have to be honest and tell you the truth at all times.. Self explanatory.

    2. If an AM cannot get in touch with you in 24 hours I find that not to be very good. Even being busy is no excuse to be honest. Excluding weekends 24 hours tops! No excuse.
    – if you cant deal with the issue at least send a message your going to work on it and give an ETA of an update. To make affiliates wait 3-4 days is terrible.

    3. When they say they will do something honor it. Many do not. The idea of under promise and over deliver is a perfect example. There are some like this. Just keeping your word shows respect and decency.

    4. An AM is the middle man between you and the casino program. They really need to be good at relating info between the program and affiliate and step to the plate for affiliates. Most are always geared towards the program to be honest since they get paid from them.

I guess doing their best job at these areas is all i usually ask. I just cant stand when you have to email an AM over and over about something and they just ignore or or forget to reply. Or tell you they will do this do that and never come through.

This always happens with payments from some programs – they cant pay on time and then you get the AM saying its on its way or all kinds of stories. Getting really sick of it.

I know right! I spend a few hrs a day chasing money it is getting very old! To be fair though they are just doing their job & I know they have to feel uncomfortable at times giving us the push off.

I need affiliate programs with easy accessible marketing material! Material that is fresh please! Also if you want me to market your stuff don’t make me come chasing you up for good deals or new promotions if you cannot be bothered to talk to me I cannot be bothered to market your brands heavy :)

The best ones are the ones that ALWAYS reply to your emails.

The best ones say good morning or hello before asking for something :)

This does mean a lot. When working with anyone, I think it is so important to have a balance of work talk and “hey how are you & what are you up to” conversation. Keep things light, make it fun to work together. But… it is so important to make sure that your affiliate manager has your back and is an advocate to make you money ;)
