Thanks Classics… I had been asking about that but perhaps this confirms it.

And here I am poised to get some Inktomi paid inclusion.

Is that a good or bad idea now?

I can’t access that article, am not a member.

Inktomi also supplements the results of MSN, Overture, eSpotting, HotBot and Goo.

I am not so sure I would cut off PFIs just yet.

Yahoo leaves Google because of poor search quality :

Jeff Weiner, head of search at Yahoo, said the decision to switch on the company’s new search engine came after internal tests showed the quality of its results were better than those of rivals in terms of relevance, comprehensiveness and timeliness.

    Yahoo stops using Google

Inktomi paid inclusion will NOT feed the Yahoo search engine after April 15th. Yahoo will be offering its own paid inclusion program at some point between now and then.

Inktomi pfi may still make sense just to be on MSN, for now, but I definitely wouldn’t pfi a lot of pages now until we see what program Yahoo rolls out.

Whatever it is, a lot of people are going to be angry because they paid for Inktomi pfi because they incorrectly assumed Yahoo would use the Inktomi-named search engine and its pfi. The fact that they are using 95% Inktomi and renaming it “Yahoo Search” looks at first glance like they are just taking the chance to double-dip everyone, but until they unveil whatever Yahoo pfi program will exist it really isn’t too useful to get mad or speculate either.

You are talking about the Yahoo Directory, I assume, which is yet another way they are getting money. The Yahoo Search PFI program doesn’t exist yet.

Classics is correct. I received the following notice:

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT INKTOMI SEARCH SUBMIT:

    Dear Inktomi Search Submit Customer,

Yahoo! Search has transitioned to its own search technology and is preparing to launch a new inclusion program. As a bonus for Search Submit customers, Yahoo! Search is providing a free trial of Yahoo! traffic that will end on April 15, 2004. During and after the free trial of Yahoo! traffic, you will continue to receive your usual traffic from the rest of the Inktomi distribution network.

When the new inclusion program launches, Search Submit customers will have the option of joining the new program for ongoing participation in Yahoo! Search results.

Normally, I would just see that BS marketing and posturing. Unfortunately, I also believe it happens to be true right now.

So this is a tactic to have us pay twice for PFI?

    I’m smelling a Looksmart….

If it gets rid of Google I will happily pay four times.
