InactiveI had the opposite problem until I finally got a whole room as just the office.
When I worked on a desk in the livingroom, work would never go away and I would work all the time.
Now I step in the office about 6am or so and I close the door the final time at about 7pm – still a darn long workday but I step out during the day here and there and smell the roses.
I find once I get going at an idea I want to see it taken to the finish. It’s fun to watch it grow and I get absorbed in gathering up all I need for it. I enjoy my work. I take pride in it. The last thing I need is a boss interrupting me and distracting me and telling me things to do.
I have been selfemployed all my life and that’s not going to change.

InactiveI have done this on and off and I think I can pitch in with some of my findings. I always find it productive working from home as I get the entire day’s work done in a few hours. However if you are involved in projects where you need one to one interactions with the team every now and then, virtual interactions can’t replace that.
A Lot
depends on how disciplined you are and your objectives. Like Dom pointed out it is always better to have a separate work area at home. This saves you from over working and also helps you focus on the work at hand and finish it asap.Having a list of things to do when u start the week or day also helps.
And yes, playing poker :nono: while working is a big distraction and you can’t do justice to either the work or the game. However a beer goes well with work

MishaMemberLike Satya says – self discipline helps.
The flexibility needs to be used in the right way. The work hours must be clearly marked and one should not get distracted while working. I have been working from home for four years now and the flexibilty this arrangement give me actually inspires me to do better so that I can hold on to this way of working and living my life!July 8, 2009 at 10:49 am #801790Anonymous
InactiveI become a ‘work addict’ if I’m not careful. I make real life rules for myself, like going outside and sitting in the sun once an hour for at least 15 minutes, it’s ok with me if i get sidetracked and don’t come in, but it’s not ok to be sidetracked and not go out
.I also take at least 2 days a week and ban myself from working. Usually i leave the city with my kiddos
