Are the wolves agressive or bothering anyone?

    Never met a wolf I didn’t like.

The ones I have met were tame or semi tame though.

Long as you don’t have cats or tiny dogs running lose….

No, the wolves had done nothing other than shock us when we saw them.

My dog had pups and we kept one, she’s 3 months old and figure thats what attracted some attention.

For those with Wolf experience (wild) , will they attack a large dog? Or do they try to avoid fights and go after the weak?

They go for the young, weak or small. Unless very hungry, then they can get desperate and “stupid”.

But by instinct are shy and prey on weakness.

Could be well be attracted by puppy noises, and could be friendly or hungry interest there.

I would not let my dogs interact with wild wolves. ( and I have Great Danes)

    Hi all,

    wow really neat stuff!

I have a little experience with the wolf/dog mix … the other part being German Shepard and they were wonderful dogs unless you were another dog.

Those pictures are more remindful to me of our dogs than being 100% wolf. However I’m certainly no expert.

What makes them so remindful is the snout looks to me to be a little bit shorter and perhaps not quite as narrow just as the dogs we had looked.

Also that wolf looks extremely healthy even taking into consideration his winter coat.

I’d love to have seen the others that were with it.

In any case I don’t think it would be wise to under-estimate them by any means since you can never know what a wild animal will do and since they are in numbers they are going to be much less fearful of you than otherwise.

On top of which they’ve already proven they’re not afraid to come up to your house in complete daylight.

Taking care you or more importantly the missus don’t find yourself cut off from getting back to the house when you’re outside would be something you should always keep aware.

When you’re living within the territory of any wild animal which is a potential physical threat thru an act of agression rather than defense: it is always smart to keep the fact in the back of your mind to stay alert for potential trouble and not hesitating to act as soon as you become aware of a situation and both people and creatures can exist within the boundries of each other’s realm.

I bet 98% of animal attacks could have been avoided if the people had either not been doing what they were doing to provoke the attack in the first place or for those innocent of the latter: if they’d just moved their ass to a safe spot the minute they saw the bear, or the cat, …. or the occasional rogue field mouse (don’t laugh! My pride was seriously mauled on day as a child when one ran up my jean leg and I had to come out of those pants right there in front of all the kids at recess) :nervous:

if only I’d moved away when I first spotted the monster!

… luckily I survived but I still have nights when I wake up in a sweat thinking about that rat’s intentions …

    :sarcasm:

Wolves are pretty impressive creatures but we dont see too many of them, which is probably good for our pets sake.

Have lost some cats to coyotes though.

Very cool pics by the way.

Living on Vancouver Island, we have a lot of wildlife and a lot of hiking trails. Sometimes the two don’t mix.

One day an older woman I know was hiking just outside of town with her 3 dogs when they came into a clearing, and realized they were surrounded by a pack of wolves.

The wolves were slowly closing in around the group, when the oldest dog, a very old German Shepherd, separated himself from his companions and led the wolves away.

They got safely away, but when they came back with help they found the old dog mortally wounded. The brave old sheperd died on the way to the vet.

Now, I don’t know what had gotten into the wolves: They’re generally pretty safe to have around, in that they keep to themselves and avoid people. I expect they were simply hungry and were interested in the group because of the weak, old dog.

A sad story, for sure, but there aren’t any villians here. There is a very brave and loyal hero who gave his life to protect those he loved.

I think your pictures are wonderful, Dalstar, thanks for sharing! Northern Ontario is beautiful – one of my favourite places. Especially in the autum.

We’ve lost a cat to cougars, and one night the same summer the fattest cat suddenly bursed through the bedroom window, landing on the floor in one . motion (something I swear she wasn’t physically capable of Hell, it was hard enough for her to jump up to the window sill), and immediately after that there came this growl/snarl from right outside the windowl!

There have been no cougar or wolf incident since these. Thank god.

Very nice pictures and congratulations for your “nerves of steel”.

Living in a cold coast, the only moving that I have seen from my window are whales……..and far
