InactiveInsanity.
There is not a US federal law, per se, against poker/casino play via the internet. Besides, they are taking bets in their own country, so it shouldn’t matter to them. They are not coming to the U.S. and taking bets, U.S. citizens are going to them and making bets…. This just doesn’t make sense.

InactiveNope . you are completely right. 100% insanity.
Maybe Utah should start arresting Nevada casino executives that cross the state line.

Inactiveof course it makes sense, US is bullying the rest of the world, and people are buckling at the pressure.

InactiveI just spoke to Littlewoods there and it seems yes everyone is just following everyone else like a knock on effect.
I think this is just going to keep snowballing to the extent where if in US your not gambling unless your in a state its legal on or offline.

InactiveI think William Hill is following on from The Ritz Club who closed their Casino and Poker Rooms completely the other day rather to avoid any trouble. Seems crazy to me!!!

I agree completely. It’s being applied a law that does not exists.
Even if it was ilegal to bet in the US, why can a UK company be charged for accepting bets from a US player in the UK? I think that a non-existent US law is being applied to the WORLD.

No one HERE is arguing with you – the companies are simply reacting to REAL arrests made by a zealous US revenue collection (opps sorry) I mean Law enforcement arms.

InactiveI found it funny that this was causing so much news around the world. (I would link to the article one of our reporters did on this but I don’t want to spam.) But basically he reported that William Hill has 1% of its business coming from the US and they actually banned US bettors from sportsbook gambling weeks ago, they simply cutoff ALL gambling to the US – including casino and poker play – earlier today.
I think bigger news would be if a company that has 85% of its business coming from the US suddenly cut off all its US customers.

InactiveThe situation in Europe is not very good at the moment too with the arrests of 2 betandwin execs 2 weeks ago. But the situation in Europe is very different since what is at stake is the state monopolies of gambling. They see a lot of potential in the gambling industry and don’t want to share it with private held companies.
The problem is that European rules say that if there is a company operating in any state, then any other company must be able to do the same on that state. There are some exclusions though but from what has been said, since all state owned gambling is advertised actively trying to encourage gambling, there is no grounds to keep this like it is at the moment. The EU is likely to take some measures very soon and to take the first steps into total liberalisation because of the abuse from the governments across Europe.
Let’s see what happens.
I think that since there is too much demand for gambling, there is nothing that can be done effectivelly to ilegalise it in the long run.
