– You might miss out on receiving important emails regarding your domain. For example, domain renewal notices, or legal correspondence such as possible trademark infringement notices, etc
I have some domains with private registration and still receive the domain renewal notices. The domain registrar has your information, the public just doesn’t have access to it.
As for the infringement notices – I believe the respective legal team can send documents to the domain regsitrar to obtain your information for legal purposes, or have it forwarded onto you, although I could be wrong.

GuestHi,
I figure it that if and when its ever decided to persecute ….note I did not say prosecute ….. those that choose to use their right to free speech … that it won’t be those with private whois that get attacked first. Giving us time to make a decision on whether we want to fight or run.
its a damn shame the country of the so called free ….based on freedom of speech ….. must make such decisions but this is a fact of life and the best reason I can think of for being private. Yes .. we WILL be sold out by our registars.. I’ve no doubt at that. but i think that will come second…. least i hope so.

InactiveI didn’t want my phone number posted on the whois anymore. For a while it was getting ridiculous, I would get an average of 20 calls a day at all times of the day or night.
I now changed numbers and I have no one calling me. Casinopays was the worse, they would call whenever they found a new website of mine, and they seemed to have 4 different managers find the same website on the same day.
If the government wants my info I think the privacy will delay them by all of 24 hours so this isn’t the reason I do it. But I guess the extra day of freedom is nice.
