Dont worry it took me a while to adjust to the roundabouts. I had driven through one in my entire life until a couple of months ago, and then all of sudden I was driving on the wrong side of the road with roudabout after roudabout… it took about a week to adjust to it… but it makes so much more sense.

Speed limits are artificially low, too. Even if they were close 30 years ago, modern cars and roads are built so much better today. I don’t think they were close 30 years ago.

Now, if someone doesn’t want me driving above a certain limit in their neighborhood, then that would be fine. I would totally respect it if I knew that a neighborhood set a speed limit. Those sorts of fines should go into a fund for victims of accidents, insurance, or anything besides feeding the monster that creates, enforces, and profits from them.

Roundabouts… nice, except when they are small, with multiple lanes, and heavy traffic. Hell, most of the stoplights out there are only needed during certain hours. That’s one good thing about lights… that they can be programmed to make sense. (even though they rarely are.)

Unfortunately, it has become the norm for three or four cars to come crashing through after the light turns red…almost as though red means orange or something. I always wait before moving on green…it’s suicide to do otherwise.

The first time I drove thru a circle, it confused me as well. But it doesn’t take long to like the way the traffic flows with it. Stats show that there are fewer accidents where circles are used.

I’m still amazed about the laws banning people from pumping their own gas though. I just can’t imagine who thought of making such laws….and why? I honestly had absolutely no idea about this. I’ve traveled a lot of places on the highways, and I’ve never been in a state where they have these laws, so I just didn’t know! There can’t be many places where they have them.

    Can’t pump your own gas?

Definitely top 10 in my crazy-law list. It makes less sense than the UIGEA even…

OneGuy…….. you know I love you. offered to marry you after the first post I read that you’d made …. way, way back lol.

but after having grown older ….. slower …. etc. I think the speed limits may be in at least some cases ……. prudent.

damn I hate to admit it …. but I’ve grown slower in response time (now 44 or is it 43 ….. can’t remember but that’s another story lol) .. anyway …. its amazing … going from one who was always in the fast lane to one who’s forced to slow down for public safety issues…. talk to me when you’re 45 or 50 .. see if you still feel the same.

Truthfully …. I never thought I’d take this side. now ….. I got to. Not happy about it……… just being truthful.

I’m not a real fast driver, either. The evidence for them being artificially low is when you have a majority of a population ignoring posted speed limits.

In 1994, New York measured motorist compliance with its 55 mph speed limit on rural Interstates. The result: 4 percent of the motorists were obeying the speed limit.

So, in that case, the speed limit is either artificially low, or 96% of the drivers on rural interstates were reckless.

The quote was taken from an interesting article here: x-http://www.ibiblio.org/rdu/a-slmatr.html

There are a lot of interesting links here: x-http://www.ibiblio.org/rdu/p-sl.html (This person is on a mission, apparently. Most people just ignore the signs and move on.)
