I can highly recommend vbulletin, the setup is very easy, you just need to upload the files and know your database settings.
The support forums are very good with a lot of info and some very good mods constantly being developed.
A good mod for vbulletin is vbseo (http://www.vbseo.com) it optimises your forum for the search engines and creates sitemaps etc.

For a free forum I recommend phpbbseo – http://www.phpbb-seo.com It’s basiclly a modified version of phpBB3 but it comes pre-modded with a whole load of seo features.

I agree. Vbulletin with VBSeo (if you can afford both). Otherwise, Vbulletin is quite good by itself.

I know nothing about Invision, but hear they are good also. I don’t know the amount of ‘mods’ they have though. vBulletin has a TON of mods.

Unless you’re already making lots of money and you don’t mind paying for licenses, I’d take PHP_BB3 with a template. On its own PHPBB doesn’t look very good but it’s free and can be modified heavily.

The good thing is you can add it to any website, while vbulletin’s license is only worth it on websites that generate decent money.

I had PHP and it is highly exploitable.

    We were hacked through it.

We then had to go through the mess of converting several active boards to VB. Love the VB.

I did read already a lot there at Vbull
this SEO looks to me omg technical
    but oh well,
I can go only with the normal Vbull forum to start and think this SEO thing i can then always buy if needed.
