The Captain told us that Mahi werent running and that when he went sailfishing they werent co-operating either so he suggested we head to some wrecks. As a result we caught a variety of bottom fish including:
3 Nurse Sharks – They all were released, largest was about 175 lbs.
6 – 8 Goliath Groups (Jewfish) – They arent legal to take so they went back too, its a shame though as most were over 100 lbs of tasty Grouper.
1 Legal Black Grouper, 3 – 4 smaller ones that went back
12 decent sized Mangrove Snapper which are now safely in the freezer.
3 Jacks (small but we kept em anyway as they were legal)
2 arm busting Sting Rays (these bastards fought like nobodys business) we let em loose after bringing them up to the side of the boat.
1 Good size Lemon Shark (60 Lbs) we kept him and the Captains wife cooked some of it up at their restaurant. It was EXCELLENT! We had it fried, broiled and blackened.
That was about it, but we had a good time and the kids were thrilled.
I must say I enjoyed Marathon Key even more then I did Key West overall.
