InactiveEver thought of coming to Europe? Like Spain or possibly Greece?

InactiveI have considered it but would like to stay on this continent if possible because I have grown children here and family. Plus I am a might trepidatious about moving abroad with the current anti american sentiment.
I have some cash and would like to buy some land and maybe build something modest on it to live in.But I guess Europe might be an option if I can’t find what I am looking for here. I was hoping there was some state that might be user friendly to us heathen webmasters. :woo-hoo:

InactiveCome hang with me up here in Toronto, i live 10 minutes away from Woodbine racetrack, where i worked as an assistant trainer for Stronach Stables up until a few years ago, i get great deals on Awesome Again offspring/stud fees, because of something i did with him way back, before he won the Queens Plate and Breeders Cup, although i might need to double check on that, he’s been down in Florida for a while now, but yeah, there is a strong Toronto/Florida connection here if the weather is too cold for you, you can usually make it to Florida in a couple hours for around $100 just about anyday
-half price on Awesome Again stud fees
-discount travel rates to FloridaWow, what a deal
The land however is very expensive, but if you move out about an hour+ away from the city you’ll find something for $100k, there is nothing near me that’s under $250k
Canada is pretty cool, it’s like America without the stupid laws, you can smoke weed anywhere, play poker in comfort, it’s the biggest country in the world, can’t go wrong
I’ll be launching my own racing stable eventually, been saying that for a few years, but i will get around to it, need more cash, having horses is like trying to support multiple wives
So yeah, this is good for you, big on horses here, the guy who owns the majority of race tracks in North America, Stronach, lives here, he is head man of all horse racing in North America, his son is my age, you can hang with us, get a line of credit from the track, yipee
you can get an account at the track and bet and watch every race from around the world live like i do from your home, all north america thoroughbred, standardbred, Australia, Hong Kong, Dubai, France, i even get the racing form for half price, $2.50
We got the annual NTRA Qualifier tourny here in August
Fun Stuff, Horseman’s Paradise
As for the Belmont
#8 horse wins the derby
#8 horse wins the preaky
who’s #8 in the belmontbut aside from that master logic, usually i look at a horse coming out of the Peter Pan as a big upset potential, not neccessarily the winner of that race, but a horse that prepped in it
Sunriver looked good winning the Peter Pan, but a horse like Strong Contender, who was invisible in that race, could drop a huge bomb on the Belmont at odds of 50-1, if he runs in the race
We’ll see, it’s still too early to pick
I was in New York with cash on Bet Twice to win this race, back in the day, he was a 5-1 winner if i remember correctly, 20 years ago

InactiveNey Nick, I always have been a big fan of Canada. Only wish we could move it a little further south so it would be warmer. You make it sound great, especially since I am an old horse player and big time libertarian. On the other hand it is so cold and the winters and the lack of sun! But it does sound good. It is at least worth a visit and a look around. I dated a lady from the maritimes and spent some time up there.
I love the line about horses being like multiple wives. Have you read my blog site yet? I could be the Willie they wrotethe song, “Horses and Divorces” about. That is why I don’t have a lot to spend on my next move, that and a daughter in medical school, that is.
I have a brother down in Florida near the big horse farms in Ocala. I know Frank Stronach must have a farm around there.
Well anyway, I guess I’ll have to point the old black Mariah toward Toronto soon and check it out. I wouldn’t mind moving my business up there but when I checked there was so much red tape and the financial limits they set were over my head so I gave up on it.
Thanks for the info, hope to see you up there.

InactiveMontreal is neat too, it is like a part of Europe sitting in America. And I believe it’s warmer.
I have thought about Canada also. But also about some more exotic places, the Bahamas maybe…Cuaracao….lots of interesting places in the world.

InactiveHey Spanky
If you are in New England i can assure you that you won’t notice the slightest climate change in Toronto, it’s just a tactic we use up here to keep the drifters out, like when the vikings discovered Iceland and Greenland, one was covered with green forests, the other was covered with ice, the one with the greens was named Iceland, the one with the ice was named Greenland, to keep the rival viking gangs out
Next time you’re in Ocala, go check Adena Farms and throw the Awesome one an apple, unless they moved him, they got farms everywhere, he’s probably in Kentucky now, the Keeneland Auction is a bigger market, Jack Brothers is the man in charge down there, good luck getting within 100 feet of the horse, we have an agreement going back many years, i get an Awesome Again offshoot for $50k, it was my idea to jack up his stud fee which now stands at $125k, that damn horse used to just give me the meanest stare, like i’m ready to kick everyones ass and then he went out and did, i remember him, the great Canadian, i was standing right beside him just before he won the Queens Plate
Only Breeders’ Cup Classic winner to sire a Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, and the first to sire two Breeders’ Cup winners on one day
Won the Queens Plate in his 2nd career start
Son Ghostzapper holds the Breeders Cup Classic world record race time, and the highest beyer speed figure in history
Retired after only 12 races with close to $5 million in winnings at age 4, he would of shattered every record in the book if he raced one more year
Best racehorse in the world, best sire in the world

InactiveI was up in Quebec last summer and spent some time in the old city. Went for a sail in the harbor and toured the fort, ate at the sidewlk cafes and bought some interesting prints off the street venders. It is a beautiful and charming city. Unfortunately it is also cold as all get out in the winter. But defiitely worth a visit in the summer.
Yes the bahamas sound interesting, but I wonder how stable each of those countries is. Then again there is always something no matter where you go so perhaps it is time to look around and pick a place because the US is not the kind of place to be for casino gambling portal owners.
Please forgive the reference, I mean no one any offense, but this reminds me a little of Germany in the 1930’s. A few people got out but a lot of people sat around wondering how bad it would get and talking about leaving. Most of them never made it and wound up at a death camp. A lkot of them just couldn’t believe the country they grew up in and loved would turn on them and actually do them and their children any real harm.
If you think the US government won’t hurt you and has to respect the constitution or the bill of rights think again. Just take a look around you. Waco, Ruby Ridge, and before that Kent State. We have concentration camps in Cuba, state sponsored terrorism around the world and the phone records of millions of people are being looked at.
So what it all boils down to, is where to go? Canada might be a choice but if the US says hey give that guy back to us he broke our laws, will Canada hand us over? Canada may not be far enough away and if the US puts pressure on the bahamas or some other small Cari. Island they may cave as well. Just being the devil’s advocate here.

InactiveHey Nick
Funny how we can forget a lot of things in life, but not the great horses.I don’t know where Awesome is now but I know the Florida breeders are trying their best to outdo Kentucky. I think they’ll have their hands full, but who knows? Looks like I’ll have to mosey up there and check out Canada. Were you born there or did you move there? HOw hard is it to become a citizen?
I’m hitting the road today to take my sister and her kid camping so I may or may not be able to answer or view this for a day or two but I would appreciate any info. Maybe it would be good to put some info up here for all the users to check it out. We need to start looking at our options and make a decision now.
