For laptops IBM is the best (not for mac lovers), never had problems with IBM machines ever. But I currently use Sony Vaio. Not bad either. Didn’t have any issues since a year.
Avoid HP at any cost
I’m looking for a PC, not a laptop. I should have been more clear.
Using a Gateway currently, and not having any issues with it yet. But it’s getting to be the age where they tend to all start acting up for me, so I figured I’d be proactive this time and get a new one before I have issues.
I had an HP years ago, and it did break after a month, but they came to my house, picked it up and left a new one. So at least the customer service was good, given I live in the middle of nowhere…
advice: don’t buy a desktop
unless you’re using it for really heavy duty things, there’s no real good reason for getting a desktop anymore
I work in an office, and I sit there like 12 hours a day. I like a huge screen, there are no laptops with big enough screens.
I also like a wireless, detached keyboard so I can lean back and put the keyboard in my lap at times, without having a screen attached.
I use a laptop when not working in the office, and it always irritates me… so I guess it’s just a matter of preference.
you can probably bring your laptop to the office then 1) buy a wireless keyboard and 2) a big screen to attach it to

Dom you should find someone who can build you one from scratch. It will be half the price and will have all the bells and whistles you want (i.e. be super powerful etc)…
I haven’t purchased a computer pre-made for literally years.. actually, it could be since my first computer… They’re always better when you make them yourself.
Well, I ended up with an “all in one”.
The IMac definitely looks to be the best by far in that category, by miles.
But since I want to mostly see things exactly the way the vast majority of my visitors does, and I read all kinds of horror stories about running windows7 on apple, I ended up ordering a Sony 24″ , the biggest monitor I could find aside the apple and some unknown with bad reviews.
So I will do away with the tower, free up storage space that is within easy reach, and get rid of my “wire salad” (cables everywhere)
I am also replacing my printer with a wireless Cannon.
In a way this is a compromise between a laptop and a desktop I like, all the hardware is in the screen, but I have a seperate wireless keyboard and mouse and printer.
Time to clean up that desk, yeah!
I still say go for Mac…you can install OpenOffice (free office suite with all the compatibility with MS Office), Google Apps for your e-mail/calendar/contacts, and a cloud-based storage solution and life will be grand.
I recently did the above with a MacBook Pro laptop and am quite happy with it. I plan on doing the same with my desktops too.
Computer hasn’t crashed, froze, or slowed down once.
