Get them thinking, lol.
Why don’t you just say you are in the “online marketing business” or “I sell online advertising space”… And aks how it works, just tell them that the core business is like Google adsense and Adwords…
In line with the topic of the thread, the FUNNIEST way I have ever told someone what I do is that I work for an online casino group and when they ask me do I deal cards to the players (which is what 99% of people ask – some people really are clueless) I tell them “you know how there’s all those porn sites out there, well basically if you sign up for a porn account through those guys, they get paid. i help people make money like that, but with casino” – the “but with casino” usually comes about 5 seconds after their jaw drops open because they think i work in porn.
Right off the bat, I tell them that I’m into online affiliate marketing. They always seem to have the same respond like, ‘Wow, what’s that?’ Then I explain to them what’s it is all about.
Get their interest and make them feel like my work is some a big time thing over the net.
I further add that the site is an online casino. My friends are just blown away by that remark, they never imagine that it doesn’t take much money to be an affiliate. But it does enhance your personality ,most so in socials when I’m ask what I’ve been doin’ lately.I usually keep it simple by saying “I do some marketing for some online companies”, if you go into detail, everyone wants to get involved.
I get this question alot and find it hard to explain in one sentence to family and friends…
I remember once I was on a phone call (trying to get some info from some company) and they asked what did I do… I simply said “computers”… lol
I was at work when I said this and a few of my work mates overheard, I still don’t live that one down :tounge2::tounge2::tounge2:
It’s hard to explain what I do to other people that are “computer illiterate” outside of facebook.
I tell them I am a computer programmer and leave it at that. If they ask more questions I just tell them that they wouldn’t understand me if I tried to explain it. Anytime I try to explain it to anyone, I can see the look in their face that they don’t understand a word I am saying. I just gave up and stopped explaining.

that is the exact thing I experience, which is why I decided that I would start having some fun with that blank stare by telling them i have some extreme occupation :tounge2:
In my FaceBook account I do tell everybody affiliate marketing is one way to earn money online. to my surprise I receive quite a number of inquiries wanting to know more and getting involve as an internet marketer.

for people who surf Internet often,
it is not hard for them to know there is thing called affiliate marketing,

even they are not curious more to step into this industry.Actually it is just an intro of what i do on the side and most of my friends there are interested in affiliate marketing.
It was one way of promoting, since a lot of them are gamblers. Casino, cock fighting, Mahjong, poker, golf betting all of which of course is done on land base and never online.My friends are reluctant playing online due to it is being run by a program. However they are amendable to invest to promote affiliates to others.
