This is a pretty good argument which will certainly buy them a lot of time. Obviously this argument cannot be used by casinos and sportsbooks.

InactiveI might also suggest that blackjack involves some skill. At least if you plan on winning!

InactiveWTF is the matter with some people, how dare somebody say that sports betting requires no skill
I have lost an incredible amount of respect for many members here
One’s true character comes out in times of conflict, and many here have failed the test
There is a reason for what is happening, that reason is money, and the biggest culprit is the Poker world, the dramatic increase in money leaving the country is directly attributed to the Poker boom
For these people to come out and make legal claims, like that idiot over at Cardplayer, who is not even a real lawyer, is just stupifying, no real lawyer would dare make any legalities public in a situation like this, they would risk there reputation, and could even be held liable
Stop pretending Poker is innocent, when they are in fact the most guilty

InactiveI agree 100% with you that sports betting requires skill even though many place their bets based on emotions rather than skill.

InactiveThe difference is, nick, that no casino or sportsbook would ever want to say “but this is a game of skill”, because casinos and sportsbooks do not want skilled players!
(There are a couple of minor exceptions re sportsbooks, e.g. Pinnacle openly say they allow professional players. But most sportsbooks will ban you if they think you are a pro)
I did not suggest that there is no skill in either casinos or sports – casinos have bonus abusers, sportsbooks have arbers and knowledgable bettors, all of whom can make profits long-term. But no casino or sportsbook would ever want to admit that.

InactiveFirst of all, i am very pissed, as i was just driving on the highway and my hood latch broke and my hood came flying up shattering my windshield all over me
And i am not about to go over how sportsbooks make money again, they have absolutely no interest in the outcome of a sporting event, they balance the lines and make money from the juice, they don’t get rich when players lose
Betting on sports requires much more skill in fact, luck plays a much bigger role in both Poker and Casino games

InactiveNick, a professional sports bettor will consistently beat the odds set by the sportsbook. As you say, a sportsbook makes money because, whichever team wins, they will – on average – take in more than they lose. This is not true for professionals, who will on average win more than they lose.
If every sports bettor was a skilled professional, all sportsbooks would be out of business.
That is why the vast majority of sportsbooks will close the accounts of professional gamblers, just as casinos will refuse to serve card counters, or (online) bonus abusers.
In any gambling venture where the player is competing against the house, it is profitable for the house only when they have an edge. A professional only exists because he can beat that edge, therefore professionals are not welcome at any such establishment.
Poker is different beause players compete against each other, and therefore the poker site wants skilled players – skilled players make them more money.
So while I am not in an way disputing that succesful sports betting takes skill, this is not an argument which the sports sites would ever use to protect themselves as the poker sites have done.

vladcizsolMemberOk Guys calm down.
Nick are you sure that your hood latch breaking was an accident?

InactiveOk Howard
How do you figure there is a difference between a Pro Poker player and a Pro Handicapper
A Pro poker player will beat the average player most times, so you have a winner and a loser, the rake is taken as always, if you have a Pro vs another Pro, one will lose, that never changes, rake is still taken
Sports betting is the same principle, only multiplied, if a bunch of Pro’s all bet the same game(which never happens), the line will drop, from -200 to -300 lets say, depending on the volume of the action, but the line will go up on the other team, lets say +400 for example, they want to offer generous odds to entice gamblers and cover themselves, the point is that just like rake, juice is taken no matter what the outcome is
There is no difference, Casino’s are a seperate entity, they can operate with a single betting player, Sportsbooks and Poker rooms can’t
Pinnacle is great, they can cover their action, like every book should, but some books are garbage, they dont have enough player action to cover themselves so they rely on an outcome of an event, in that case they wouldnt want Pro’s, cuz they would get burned, but thats as a result of bad business on their part, most top books wouldnt care if someone is a Pro handicapper, they would actually welcome it, as a Pro bettor, just like a Poker Pro, the player will be betting consistently and generating income from the juice on his action, like the rake

InactiveWhile i do agree that many sport betters use there skill to place bets etc but i would not say its a game of skill because you cannot infuence the outcome…..
betting on a football match of roulette spin as a better you have no controll over the outcome by no matter how much skill is involved but playing poker, you do control the destiny of the game.
Of couse blackjack you can say is a game of skill but the odds are still against you and you have no controll over that so i dont think you can class it as a game of skill…..
i think for anything to even have the chance of standing up in court there has to be no odds against you and you have to have control over the outcome of the game… basically games where you play against other people and not a “house” or “bookie”.
just my thoughts
