I am in this forum right now, posting this message, because the spam I received from Royal Apollo stated that they are CAP certified. It’s always great to have another spamming CAP certified program.

And I’m not just talking about the type of spam that involves unsolicited messages through my site’s contact form – that spam is tolerable (at least you visited my site). And not the type of spam where you’ve got my details from my domain whois records – that’s not tolerable, but you’re below that… you’ve purchased my details from another program! Yes, spamming with purchased lists, the lowest kind of spam. Nice work RoyalApollo, yes of course I will join your program and I’m sure you have a great privacy policy too!

Dear Jam,

We do have a strict no spam policy. If there was anything done by one of our memebers I’d like to check it right away. Can you please forward me the mail you received and I will look into it? (emma@royalapollo.com)

my apologies.

Thank you

Emma

Hi Emma,

The email I received was from your associate James D. Nardell (James@RoyalApollo.com)

OK so going back through my records, I see that James has been in contact with me in the past from a different affiliate program. So it seems my details weren’t purchased from another program, in fact they were stolen from another program :)

Does your strict no spam policy include your staff members sending unsolicited emails to people they’ve contacted through programs they worked with previously? The 2 emails that I’ve received from RoyalApollo were definitely not solicited by me. I don’t know why anyone would want to join an affiliate program that has been promoted to them through unsolicited email…

Of course since your company has a strict no spam policy, I’m sure James has been operating without authorization and will be told to stop. That’s the line I hear every time somebody complains about spam from within a program, that’s how ‘plausible deniability’ works, right :wink-wink

Jam.

OK so I’ve been contacted by James with an explanation.

I never wrote my name in this post, and yet James contacted me directly to explain the situation, therefore it seems logical that James hasn’t been mass-spamming and in fact must have only written to a few people at most, since he was able to figure out who wrote this. So then I guess my initial response may have been a little harsh :)

James has explained to me that due to our relationship at the other program, he felt it was OK to contact me now at the new program. I can understand that Point of View, to some extent… but I’m not sure I agree entirely, it’s not like we’re close friends :) I believe that Privacy Policies exist for a reason, and when I sign up with an affiliate program I have an expectation that affiliate managers won’t take my details with them when they leave to work for another company! Maybe my sense of ethics is too strong, maybe my expectation of spam and privacy policies actually being followed is too strict…

James, my response could have been avoided if you had just started your email with something like “As you may remember, we worked together over at ‘OLD PROGRAM’ and I hope you don’t mind me contacting you about the new program I’m working with.” In that case I would have immediately seen that it was not 100% spam, and would have known that the email was in fact in the shady gray area somewhere inbetween solicited and unsolicited (and therefore maybe tolerable!). Instead I just got a generic email, from a program that I’ve never heard of (and definitely haven’t agreed to receive emails from), and to a unique address that I’ve only ever used with one other program therefore I can see my details have been ‘compromised’.

OK well I think the situation has been explained and to some extent resolved. I will say that James was in fact helpful at the previous program…

Hi Jam,

I’m glad the situation was clarifying. James is a new member of our affiliate managers team. When I checked with him, he wanted to resolve this asap.
I understand what you are saying about affiliate managers who take contacts with them. I think there are 2 types, if an affiliate manager takes with him the contact that he or she worked with – that can’t be helped… and it makes a lot of casino operators unhappy – this is still normal. People use their contacts when they move jobs in many industries.
The second type is actually theft – and that is when affiliate manager steals the operator’s database. This is wrong and illegal. We will never buy such a list because we would not like to have the same thing done for us.
Royal Apollo is a new casino so we haven’t encountered such an issue yet and I hope we won’t in the future either, but in my previous work place when I was offered a stolen list, we tracked it down and sent it back to the operator. This is the same policy we at Royal Apollo are implementing.
I can only say that I’m glad we have a platform to air things. This keeps us all on our toes :)

Thanks Emma, that’s a great attitude :)

ps. sorry about the title of this thread which now seems less appropriate… well at least people can now see that you are pro-active in solving problems :hattip:

No worries about the title. I’m here to solve exactly these kind of things.
We’d be happy if you do decide to join us, but even if not I invite you to please let me know if you see anything problematic with our casino.
We are constantly looking to improve.

Have a great day :)

Emma
