InactiveHi Dom,
I had the same problem last week and it was extremely annoying. I can not remember exactly how it got fixed, but I do remember having to change some setting in the regedit file.
If I find the article, I will post it here.

InactivePlease do. The support staff on the phone is not helpful.

InactiveOk, I’ve got it. All my stuff is back, I just need to add my accounts again..
This is a real pain, folks. I hope it doesn’t happen to you. They say it doesn’t happen to everyone, only to people with certain programs on their computer and they don’t know what all programs cause the problem.
Beware of windowsXP service pack 2!!!!!

InactiveI have Windows XP service pack 2 installed and luckily haven’t come across this problem. There’s been plenty of other issues though …like it won’t let me download certain programs due to Active X controls in their installers. And plenty of other serious irritants.
I kinda feel sorry for Microsoft over this one, as only last month I met a few people who had a role in its development while I was in Seattle visiting my brother (who also works for Microsoft). They were so excited about it. Ho hum.

InactiveYes, I fixed the active x and the popup blocker so far.
Somehow when I entered one of the accounts in the outlook express, it started downloading some 5000 mails that were stuck in a queue someplace – geeeez!

InactiveI finally had a gutfull of IE and OE and a forum member on our poker site gave me a link to a site a few months ago that was microsoft owned and basically said not to use IE because of the holes…that did it for me!
I decided to download firefox (browser) and thunderbird (email)
http://www.mozilla.org
I give them both a 10/10 and both import all faves, emails and address book…now I have downloaded and installed a few firefox plugins. What I did was leave IE and OE until I was happy that all was running smoothly
MS will be losing IE and OE users by the zillion as there is little hassle changing over. I am one happy camper!

InactiveHi Dom,
How did you fix the pop-up blocker and active x control problems? Is there a program that has to be downloaded or is there a setting hidden somewhere in IE.
Also, am I the only user of IE that cannot view source code for websites now? Netscape will open the source code fine but when designing new sites and I want to edit the code and save it again everything buggers up.

InactiveI cannot see the source code either of websites. Don’t have any idea why, but it’s really annoying.

InactiveExpose yourself to a popup and an active x download and options will come up automatically.
That’s what happened to me.
Dang, I can’t see source codes either!!!

Inactivefor me, not seeing source codes right now really sucks. I’m just going through my links, and my linkmanagement software is telling me soo many times that the other sites has a no index /no follow command on their site, but, I can’t go and check if that is really the case.
But, if it’s true, then I’m somewhat disappointed that sooo many webmasters are cheating their linkpartners.October 13, 2004 at 2:59 pm #656109Anonymous
InactiveHelllllloooooooo?
Screw IE try firefox..and I am a microsoft junkie from wayyyy back.

Inactivethat is exactly what I’m going to do!!

InactiveI like open-source software. For the most part it appears to be more stable and user-friendly than the commercial products available these days.
Web Browsing – Mozilla Firefox http://www.mozilla.org
Email – Thunderbird http://www.mozilla.org
Office Suite – Open Office http://www.openoffice.org
Graphics – The Gimp http://www.gimp.orgLinux is a nice alternative to Windows although you can’t run Windows based casino software… Just java-based games.
But it is great for doing web development, very rarely crashes and doesn’t require frequent reboots.

InactiveNot sure that the view source problem is down to Windows Service Pack 2. Sounds like you’ve just visited far too many websites before deleting your cache. Open IE > tools > internet options > delete files > OK.
Once you’ve done that, you should find that you can view-source again.
I love Open Office, though, that’s great software. But I do admire anyone who can get to grips with The Gimp. I downloaded that when it was first released as a Windows package and it was a bloody nightmare !
