It’s better for a site to validate than it is for a site *not* to validate, but it won’t make or break your site either way. 100+ errors seems excessive to me though.
Most of my sites are W3C coded although there are admittedly some errors. Usually they are around the code that we get from affiliate programs (banners).
Why not go with the standards? It only takes a little time when creating the template itself, then the rest is just followthru.

no – w3c validation is totally irrelevant.
as long as content displays effectively then I’m happy.
