vladcizsolMemberI would happily support taxation on all online gaming purchases if it meant a full return of the freedoms we had before September.

InactiveYes, of course it would be perfect if online gambling is taxed and it is legal in US. And I believe that it will be.

BuccaneerMemberI agree.. but would we have been so happy with it if online gambling hadn’t been taken away in the first place? That’s where I think the government may have plotted this from the beginning…

Inactive“the government plotted” …
:happydancI don’t think that the senate plotted to temporarily create a law.
I don’t think that the republican senators plotted to get removed from office in such numbers that it would hand power over to the democrats.
Bascially I don’t think that senators are altruistic enough or far-sighted enough to be prepared to play out a scenario that means they lose a fat-wallet public salary in order to boost Government taxes.
So this conspiracy theory doesn’t hold water to me.
:plain:I think that Kyl and Frist genuinely wanted to put an end to online gambling by Americans because :
– they had received significant lobby money and back-handers
– they believed that it would boost their personal future election chances in their constituancies. When you’re looking for conspiracies – you need to find the simpliest greed factors and personal gain motives … and then you’re usually right.
There is no shadowy secret council or overlord group manipulating the strings. They’re all just a greed bunch of #$@%&** #@$#$#$

BuccaneerMemberYou make a very good point Gooner. The deomcrat vs. republican issue did occur to me, but not in nearly as much detail as you’ve relayed
Which I suppose is wy I posted my thoughts in the first place – to see how many holes could be found in my theory… Honestly, the idea occured to me only because I’ve played so many historical strategy games (Genghis Khan, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, etc.) and as the “ruler” I pulled the same kind of trick many times to collect extra taxes *L* (mental note to self – never run for public office! )March 20, 2007 at 10:33 pm #731349Anonymous

sigh.gifgreedy sounds about right otherwise why would they be in politics, oh did you forget corrupt too? and #$@%&** #@$#$#$ couldn’t have been said any better.

InactiveAha – strategy game player eh?
Me too.
:hattip:Yes – if you were able to assign an “over-group” to government – some shadowy “Bildeburg group” who controlled all politicians then maybe this could be the machevellian plan.
But just as science says that the simplies theories are usually the correct ones, I find that the simpliest, personally motivated, profit making political motives are usually the correct ones.
Of course … we could all be simple subroutines in a very complicated super-strategy game being played on a mega-computer …
:1circling(and sometimes it feels like that doesn’t it)
