InactiveI recently got jumped by a trojan via direct x that was a pop up killer – and it did kill everything that popped up – except for its own ads which it spawned incessantly.
None of the free programs would get rid of it – I finally purchased aluria spyware remover and that did it.
These trojans are getting to be a real problem.

InactiveProf, did you get this?
The thing that i have found with some of these…not all but sometimes…the install with these will sit in the Downloaded Program Files folder which is a trusted windows folder for active x controls….not sure if yours is like that but if it is it can come back easy.
That is how Xupiter comes in and that one is difficult to make stay away…but if you run XP or 2000 I can make it stay away forever…

vladcizsolMemberSo far I havent Rick and keeping my fingers crossed. I do my best to maintain security on all incoming email and browser activity. But with Trojans that are not widely distributed its hard to block.

InactiveI read a little more about this browser hijacking….and so far if you have all the windows updates…it “appears” one of the IE patches takes care of this….
I always keep my eye on this sort of stuff so if I find anything else out I’ll let you know.

vladcizsolMemberNope not true at all. New Trojans are written almost daily and merely updating Windows does not grant you immunity.
It DOES reduce your risks to exisiting Trojans that have been identified and specifically targeted and we do recommend keeping up to date, but I didnt want people to think that was a cure all.

InactiveThat is true prof.
But the Qhost one is blocked by an IE SP1 patch.

InactiveThat is so.
I am so happy with this aluria spyware remover that I am selling it on my site. It catches everything you ever heard of and then some. It gets rid of it completely and once and for all.
By the way, some song lyrics sites are really bad with this – they download gator without asking and all sorts of other things. Be careful – watch for any popunders or ad spawning windows if you go to any lyrics sites. I am not saying they all do – but a good number does.

InactiveSpybot is the most thorough one I have ever looked at…too bad it’s not a little faster though.
It will find stuff that adaware misses for sure.
