InactiveMy sites were coming up fantastically in Google . . Google was always my number one referer.
Then, who knows what happened . . . . now, only the index page of each site is listed.
I was frustrated at first . . then I got over it. Have noticed lately that most searches in Google now bring up nothing but a bunch of crap! I guess that’s the way they want it. Google’s days as a leader are so over, unless they make some changes!
I am getting more hits from Yahoo and MSN than I ever did from Google anyway, so who cares!
I don’t even waste my money on AdWords anymore. Given the stinky results Google provides, I’m sure more and more people will be doing their searches eslewhere.
Google Sucks! :rasberry:
Yahoo Rules! :clapper:

GuestYahoo appears to be in an advanced stage of schizophrenia.
If anyone knows what Yahoo has in store for affiliate sites, I sure would like to hear about it.
I’m afraid to renew with Yahoo, for fear of drawing attention to my site.
I do know that two other sites I have launced and never submitted to Yahoo are showing up fairly decently on Yahoo search results.

InactiveIn the thread Randy references I wouldn’t pay much attention to what the person claims yahoo said to him. Sounds like a person minimizing their link farming. Link farms have always been a no-no with search engines.
When it comes to affiliates, I think people need to read comments and actions reasonably rather than outlandishly. Yahoo seems to want to have a policy against boiler plate affiliates, meaning sites that are basically copies of many other sites without any original content. I doubt many people would object to downgrading/removing mirrors, or also the next step up (virtual duplicate database sites). You search for “red radios” you don’t want thirty sites with the exact same database content to appear on different URLs, with the only difference the affiliate tag.
Affiliate sites simply need original content. Your red radio page just needs to say some darn thing about red radios that isn’t said a zillion other places.
(None of this addresses what may be effecting arkyt in his thread.)

InactiveRed radios? Hmmm…couldn’t get more niche than that.

In one way there is a bit of the cutting off the old nose to spite the face going on in the SE wars.
Yahoo digs what google used to and vice versa in a lot of ways. This creates the dilemma of optimising for both and IMHO the disparity between the two is so large that the only option is to create mirror pages optimised from each.
I am not bothering but I am sure many will. End result? MORE duplicate content…just what the net needs.
I still dunno why yahoo searchers convert way the hell over googlites though. For me they do.

I’m sure if you were still doing well on Google you’d still be saying Google is the leader in search and that Yahoo sucks. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is that Google has the most number of searches per time-period. It is still therefore the number 1 search engine, weather our pages rank highly or not.
Since it’s the number 1 engine they attract alot of spam. Once Yahoo or MSN gain the majority of searchers (and one of them will soon enough) then those search engines will be filled with spam. Until the algo’s are good enough to filter the spam then there will always be spam.
As far as Yahoo converting better it might be because you have alot of webmasters checking your site trying to see how your ranking so well. That’s just a guess. I visit at least one of the top20 sites for “online casino” every day. Learn from the best I say.

Webmasters would be clicking, not depositing wouldn’t they?
Traffic has increased by approx 20% in the last 3 months but conversions on our more popular sites approx 40%…hence my observation.Conversion differences on yahoo and google….I would be interested if anyone else experiences that. Google is still my homepage and I believe google is now in the dictionary…tough act to follow for any engine.

But, my personal preferences have nothing to do with it, if people are searching it I want to be in it.

InactiveI meant webmasters clicking on the google results and looking at your page to see how they can improve their rankings. That might not happen at Yahoo and so Yahoo traffic could have better conversions since it is “real” traffic.

Not basing my opinion on whether or not my particular sites show up well . . just basing it on the fact that NO sites of any real value seem to come up in there anymore!
Google still gets my vote for the search site that has taken the biggest dump :rasberry:

Guestwell you’re talking apples and oranges in a sense.
From one point of view; is judging it on visits; and the other on results provided.
and I agree on the results part, google does suck its almost always loaded with crap before you ever find a site to fill one’s need.
but I also agree there’s a reason for that.

Neither Yahoo nor Google are perfect, and both have lots of problems, but being irrational isn’t going to change reality.

GuestHi PS, good to see you’re still alive and kicking.
Or as I guess I should say for those of us in this biz, alive and still getting kicked.

anyway, I was just curious as to what this means? I’d imagine you probably know better than yahoo as to where your sites are listed and where not;
but reading that letter my understanding is that she’s telling you your sites are not banned.
which like I said, if i had to bet, my money’d be on you.
assuming you’re correct and the sites are banned, or not listed, or along those means; and you’ve got yahoo telling you they aren’t (banned): where do you go from here?
is it easier to just go ahead and create another site using the same content, different domain name; and then try and get it spidered thru perhaps linking to a site you know gets crawled; or is it better to contact yahoo and …. shit never mind. I answered my own question.
good luck Bud.

InactiveY! does have a ban list IMHO!
September 22, 2004 at 12:57 am #655283Anonymous
InactiveHow do I know my site is banned?
Three proves:
1. When I do a search with the site url – the site don’t show in the serps.
2. When I do a search with a unique exact phrase taken from the site – the site don’t show in the serps.
3. Every time Yahoo does a major update I see my site for a couple of hours at top positions, only to be thrown to nowhere later. Why Yahoo telling me my site is not banned?
Two options:
1. Either they are plain stupit and don’t know how their search engine works.
2. They got something to hide. They probably know there is no reason for the site to be banned but they have an error in their algo and they can’t change it. -
