If you don’t count writers, I hardly spend any money on it.

    I do count writers though.

Can’t say that I pay for promotion but here are a few examples I can think of that people might be paying for.

SEO Optimization (alotta do it yourselfers here, but if that isn’t you, I’m pretty sure you can find someone to do it for ya)

Forum posting (I consider this promoting.. noone wants to talk to themselves in an empty forum)

Links on high PR pages (Lotsa people here sell links to help others out of the sandbox)

PPC Search engine (not the best plan in my book, but ppl pay for it)

Contests (I’ve done $25 for best written review, and have participated in a few other webmasters contests myself)

That’s about all I can think about for now.. anyone else?

I might pay for for novelty items like shirts, travel mugs, Commercials are free. Other than that 0.00 for promotion the site sells itself. greek39

I think someone mentioned a while back they were going to put a sign on their car. Wonder how that worked out.

Oh, if you are includng all of that – yes I do pay for – retention. A lot of the above is retention. I do several of these, but would not do others.

I was talking about putting a sign on my car. I live in Florida and called my States Attorneys Office to verify that I wouldn’t be illegal.

WOW! She was going to blow me off until I mentioned the online gambling field and you could actually hear her coming to attention.

Absolutely – I quote ‘online gambling is illegal’. Oh yeah? I mentioned that this is still in legislation and was told this is Florida law??? Then she asked me for my name and phone number – this is where I hung up.

So much for that bright idea :Ohno:

This would have been great for me because, although gambling is illegal in Florida (remember we have Bush’s brother as Governor), everyone here is dying to play. There are play-for-tickets arcades all over running almost 24 hrs a day and parking lots are stacked! My guess is that not many people are aware you can gamble online since I’ve spoken to a few neighbors and they had no idea.

I thought Florida had both Indian Casinos and Casino Boats.

Seems like a gray area since you wouldn’t be promoting a casino, just a website that advertises a casino. But it probably would end up a costly legal battle. I love the idea though.

I have my dot com poker site on my trucks rear window and get asked about it all the time. That’s when I pass out my business card.

I think someone mentioned they would be worried about a state trooper pulling them over. I doubt it. Never been stopped and questioned about my poker site T-Shirt I wear. But if they did who’s to say I don’t sell poker products?

Although I don’t have this sort of advertising if I were to have an add on my car and a officer questioned me about it (I doubt they would) I would simply tell him it’s a great site I love it check it out!
And then deduct what ever I can off of my taxes for a company vehicle (in the US)

We do, but I’m in the Treasure Coast (3 counties – Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin) and there’s only one boat that works the area. There are no reservations with casinos close – it’s a long way.
