A UK affiliate built a script to see what adware companies were targeting visitors to his network. He has decided to let everyone see the live stats, maybe it will make a few more take notice/join in.

    http://www.cinoan.com/data.php

You can help him by adding this script to one of your pages.

The best place to put it is in a shared footer file thats part of each page, but failing that just adding it to your most visited page would be great.

All you need to do is add

    PHP:

He is running this test till the end of next month I think.

30% of pc’s are infected by adware in the UK. According to this piece of research.

lower than I would have guessed.

Either all the Brits (and in saying so; meaning all the PC users world-wide; but this one is restricted to Brits) are smarter than I thought and know how to hunt down these files

or not as many people are surfing porn as is publicized.

Actually, I tried to create a similar thing last year… but something didn’t quite work right and eventually I dropped it.

Looks like he has succeeded where I failed… I wonder if he would be willing to share that script…

Whats good to note, however, is that Gator is WAY down the list… does go to show that taking action does have an effect. NewDotNet is #4 but I would hardly call that spyware…

I don’t know, but I will ask him.

If it helps to clean up the internet, he may well be up for it.

    That would be cool… thanks.

The reason I wanted to do it was to get an idea of how pervasive the scumware problem was… exactly why he’s doing it. But it would also allow me to identify the culprits… and being a casino portal it might have a slightly different makeup of suspects.

This was his reply, so as soon as it hits my inbox i’ll send it over.

    “Hi Chris,

Most of the script is based on a freeware detection script from doxdesk.com – modified so as it posts the details back to the server rather than displays them to the user. So I’m happy to let anyone have a copy, with the condition that if you can’t figure out my code I probably won’t have time to support it.

I’ll tidy it up a little and send it over to you.

    Rich”

    Cheers

    LOL.

I had tried to modify the Doxdesk one as well… so he literally did what I wasn’t able to complete! I actually did have it sort of working but there were some small issues that I decided were not important enough to fix so I dropped the script as a “temporary” measure… and didn’t pick it up again LOL.

Check your email – and thanks :)
