InactiveYes posted the link several times already, but what I am having trouble finding on that site are any laws currently on file for the states of Michigan, New Jersey, or New York. Why is microgaming disallowing those states if they dont have laws on the books?
And yes dhayman his analysis is scary.
“18 U.S.C. 2 continues to punish aiders and abettors of criminal offenses “against the United States” as if they committed the offense directly. Most of the alleged legal “grey area” previously relied on by online casinos and cardrooms and their employees, principal shareholders, consultants and affiliates is now gone. Those companies and individuals wrongly, but desperately, clung to the view that they were okay because the Wire Wager Act only applied to sportsbooks. They ignored the other federal and state laws that made operating and supporting online casinos and cardrooms illegal. Now a new federal criminal “offense against the United States” has been created and it is clearly applicable to all online gambling operators not exempted by the bill.”

InactiveFrom what I understand these have “shady” laws… vague and could be twisted to prosecute.

I guess ecogra errrrr microgaming is trying to be as responsible as possible and any state that has spoke out against online gaming is going to be dissallowed. They must be afraid of the DA in NY I think he has spoke out against gaming more than most; though he did deny Lousiana in the dicks case. Just very confusing not seeing laws on the books in those states.

InactiveHello Alex,
The bill has now been signed and its all go go go on our end. We have a number of announcements to make so please read the mailer.
Our partners have decided on a course of action in regards to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act bill and I have detailed as to what we are implementing over the next few days.
We are taking the following action :
As of Monday the 16th of October our group will be forced to block all play and registration from the following States : Illinois ,Indiana , Louisiana , Michigan , Nevada ,Oregon , South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin.
From Monday the 16th of October the following partners will not be accepting NEW players but will allow existing players from the United States to continue playing.
King Solomon’s Casino
Geisha Lounge Casino
Grand Aces Casino
All other partners continue to accept New Partners and have as of yet to give us a cut of date. I will provide a date if we receive one in advance of any cut off date.Weird, they have Michigan which doesnt have a law according to Humphrey, and left off New Jersey and New York.

InactiveNew York – courts ruled in 1999 that internet gambling was illegal
New Jersey –http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ge/internet_gambling/law.htm
Michigan – http://michigan.gov/mgcb/0,1607,7-120-7863-19182–F,00.htmlRemember, there are an additional sixteen states that do not permit any type of social gambling by their citizens… it’s only time before they update their laws to specifically address internet gambling.
as always, just my two cents

InactiveNeither the NJ and Michigan comments refer to internet gambling laws; one does allude to the wire act; but there are already precedents set that exlude the internet from that act.
IMO all state laws and federal could be challenged; when gambling is illegal in my state I go to Vegas and gamble or I go to another location via the internet. The gambling IMO is clearly taking place on the server and the servers are located in locations where it is legal. Obviously that too is just opinion.
