InactiveCan you be more specific?

GuestIt’s a general question.
I have noticed many things.
My google hits are significantly different – different keywords. Also a site ring I am affiliated with sharing a free game – you get hits for sending hits and a list of site participating shows active sites. That list has dwindled to my site and the sites which host it.
That sort of thing.
Changes in traffic………….
I think the google and yahoo problem is hitting the industry hard.

GuestHmmmmmmmm.
Ok, now i’m thinking part of what’s wrong is with Add Free Stats’ the past day or so.I have over 1,000 visitors to casinogeek today, yet no page views.
I’m not using cheap traffic.
Just search engine traffic and ppc.
So it just isn’t possible that there’s 3,000 views of the index page and zero views of the other pages. Heck, even I’ve looked at the other pages while updating. So, if it’s screwing up my page views, there’s no telling what it’s doing to the search phrase stats.
Anyone else having problems with Add Free Stats?
Ok, that’s what it is, then. Must be, because my casino traffic is normal or better.

InactiveI use addfreestats but only on my index pages and none of my subpages. I’m also the most horrible person I know when it comes to tracking traffic. Therefore I cant give you much input…
But one thing that I have noticed. MSN and yahoo listings are now getting more traffic, which is most likely the result of not having to compete with sponsored listings.
Over the past 6 months I have also seen an increase in traffic from those sources as well as ask jeeves, altavista, and excite. This is most likely from surfer dissatisfaction with googles horrible results.

GuestThanks Antoine.
I’m a stats junkie myself. lol It’s a habit which drives me nuts. You know what the problem is with my addfreestats?
I have a new computer.
Everytime I open an html page with notepad on this new computer (the first time only) it takes my code and mushes it all together – removes all the spaces in the whole page of code. (OMG that is such a pain in the arse!)Then, sometimes when I’m adding something or whatever, it shifts the code around, so that it breaks where it shouldn’t. I believe that is what has happened to my website tracking.
Not very clear, am I? Bottom line is my stats codes on every page are scrambled, and it’s not addfreestats’es fault.
Yeah, I’ve noticed yahoo and msn picking up a bit.May 3, 2004 at 11:45 pm #648798Anonymous
GuestMy bad!
I just redid the stats code on several pages and that was the problem!
HaHaHa. To think of the hours I have spent in the last few days optimizing because the page views weren’t accurate. O boy, am I ever optimized now!

InactiveGlad to see you answered your own question Fergie, because I could not come up with an answer.
MSN and yahoo listings are now getting more traffic
Me too. Started a few weeks ago. I am also gaining links from these engines and losing some from google.
Overall I am getting a lot more free traffic.
So far I am not complaining.

InactiveI only ever bought (and sold) traffic where IP adresses were shown in the traffic stats as a minimal requirement. Unfortunately while searching for another script I found this description of a php script available for $69.99…if they can do it so can the traffic supply companies! 😡 😡 😡

vladcizsolMemberHey Ive got an idea….
Why not set up a “service” where new webmasters or foolish online marketers could buy “traffic” at what appears to be affordable prices… Say 10,000 hits for $49.95…
We tell them its pop up or pop under traffic on established sites, we dont provide a list of these sites though so they dont catch us in the lie. We can always tell them its a privacy issue if they ask :p
We can even set up an affiliate program and get other webmasters to sell our service so we dont even have to pay for advertising ourselves :p
We start the ball rolling by posting in webmaster forums and shill about the cheap traffic source we found :p
If people complain about a complete lack of conversions we tell em it’s their landing page thats at fault or we use the old stand by “Gee, it’s always been a mystery why traffic converts on some sites and not others!” :p
Hey this might work…..
Nah….. People arent that gullible, are they?

Guestthe biggest thing to take from this is to be very, very cautious about who you buy traffic from: I imagine everybody and their Momma will be bombarding us with fantastic offers and unbelievable click-thru rates.
Only those with short sight and as they will soon enough find out, a short life on the net; would be stupid enough to buy into this as a source for cheating us in the PPCs. But I think it will be rampantly used to fraud us in email spam offers. I’ve got one right now that spammed me, (but claims he didn’t; like I wouldn’t know) that I think might be using this very program to generate the traffic he’s wanting to sell me. I guess time and my “first time small investment for trial” will be the judge of that.
Rest assured if it don’t produce, I will be letting everyone know the name of the company.
they (the PPCs), especially the smaller ones that already get massive ill-legit clicks, already have their ROI driven so far down by cheats, that I can’t imagine it being a smart business move to pad the books any further than already has been done by their partners (or by themselves).
Just look around at those that have proven to be bad traffic in the past and you can see from history that they might dance in the sun for a while but in the end will never survive the winter; so to speak.
Or they might survive but with very few of the same people in upper management being around to tell how they did it. I use Search7 as one example where when things started falling off they dumped (? somebody) and replaced him with Joe(? somebody) .. a guy that came over from FW. that was a year or two back.
A better example is the site (can’t remember the name) that became Xuppa, ( I hope I don’t have this mixed-up). That place sucked big time, …. but then again, so does the newer version …. or so I’ve heard. I don’t think I’ve went back to give them another chance. Once burned twice shy and all that…another example-in-motion is Kanoodle. watch it sink into oblivion in the coming 18 – 24 months. I will be very surprised to see it still around without having gone thru some major changes in admin in the next 2 yrs.
you know when a PPC is doing bad, just watch for the bid prices to fall off and when that happens, its time to start asking yourself if maybe you shouldn’t leave too because something ain’t right? Personally, if I’m making money at some place, you’d have to chase me away with a stick before I’d not be pressing the bids every day. As it is for everyone. so if prices start dropping, its time to lift your head and survey the meadow, its likely a predator is about.
