InactiveUh huh…
Just so you can see yourself on tv I am staying up all night on your behalf.
I set the timer on the vcr.
Because of past let downs of missing final parts of 6 month long shows my wife demands I stay up, press the record button manually.
All this to ensure your aquisition of a dvd, in lowly ntsc format, of your unworthy apearance on tv, here in Australia.
It is now 5.50am…only 3 hours 10- mins to go.
So be it. You owe me a drink.

Where is that frigging remote? Ahhhh got it…..
As a backup also got a mate to tape as well.

InactiveSorry Spear, was actually watching a bit of the show whilst having breakfast but didn’t read this thread until now.
Sounds like it was an interesting time, but who knows what Nine will do to it…

InactiveInteresting segment but you weren’t on there unless you developed an aussie or pommy accent suddenly.

It concentrated mostly on sport betting…

InactiveGood

They shot a lot of tape during the actual debate, but I suspect only the interviews after the debate were actually used.
I don’t need to have every TAB on my ass either – but I sure pissed a lot of them off… LOL… and I don’t think I will be a guest of the Australian Racing Board at the Melbourne Cup any time soon…
Opinions on the article/segment? I would really like to know how Australians feel about this issue.
And yes, Dean, it’s actually about horse racing and the AHB, TABs and a minister banding together to fight Betfair… what a load of bollocks.

InactiveThe TAB are long overdue to have their monopoly crushed and all this is to help keep their hands firmly on the reigns.
To try to stop Fairbet along with the long list of Aussie idiocy regarding online gambling is just getting rediculous. I mean, we banned online porn as well, at a cost of megabucks and in the first 2 years there were, if memory serves, 11 complaints and only TWO prosecutions against Aussie hosted porn sites.
Also digital broadcasting took a mighty wallop last year…there are too many hands in each other’s pockets.
You are right. Total bollocks.
Actually will try to get the segment to a size to upload (on 56k here) as many will find it interesting.

InactiveI meant betfair (prof you gotta extend the edit time on messages by a few mins).
Also I think Kerry Packer owns Crown Casino who are trying to buy Burswood Casino and this was not mentioned at all in that part of the segment.
He plans to introduce pokies (slots) here in the West…long and vehemently opposed… to up the per machine/per day profit at Burswood…something like 200+ per day to the standard of Crown some 360 per day.
As the ONLY casino in a state the size of 3 texas’s…he plans to open other’s here. Now, all others have failed with the pokies and other gambling venues. My bet here (Shit…jail!!!!) is he will get his way.
Why? Part of the monopoly machine matey….
Sorry if this sounds garbled but the Australian political scene regarding gambling is a mess anyway.

InactiveWith all due respect to my friends down under, I swear to God this last trip made me think that every Australian politician has something stuck up his/her rear.
I could not believe the crap I was hearing during the debate – I had to cut off a few people who tried to make statements when they were supposed to be asking questions… there was one particular horse owner who was talking about the arrogance of the Betfair representative – and completely ignorant of the fact that the TABs and the AHB were equally if not more arrogant – not to mention himself – he said he had gone into the meeting with an open mind – BULLSHIT.
I never paid much attention to Australian politics until now – but after this trip, it makes me think that the public needs to vote out the hypocrites in office – each and every one of them – and start afresh with a completely new crowd of people who have some common sense and are not full of themselves.
I get the feeling British politics are very similar… and I wouldn’t be surprised if the US Congress is the same.
Makes me think that Thai politicians are a bit more straightforward – even if half of them have a little extra income on the side.

GuestI think politicians are the same everywhere. I doubt there’s any who aren’t making some money on the side for favours they grant, directly or indirectly.
Voting is a matter of picking the sweetest turd in a pile of shit.

InactiveQuote:With all due respect to my friends down under, I swear to God this last trip made me think that every Australian politician has something stuck up his/her rear. They do. They like it, and need something more uncomfotable like a pineapple.
Quote:but after this trip, it makes me think that the public needs to vote out the hypocrites in office – each and every one of them – and start afresh with a completely new crowd of people who have some common sense and are not full of themselves. The next election. Hopefully. I am not into politics but since my US visit it gave me a new perspective on who, what and how countries are percieved. Unfortunately, it is by politicians and their crap, not the people.
Move to Australia and vote out the garbage. May not work but you will be living in a nice place.

InactiveUnfortunately the first order of business for politicians is usually self-preservation (or advancement) and running their portfolios comes second.
Some countries just do it a bit smarter, eg Thai, but at least you know what they want…

InactiveQuote:Some countries just do it a bit smarter, eg Thai, but at least you know what they want…That about sums it up… LOL… speaking of which I am off to Singapore today specifically to present this topic! This time I get to talk about why a casino won’t be built in Thailand under the current situation (too many people requiring handouts).
But I know that the main topic at hand will be Singapore’s proposed legalization of casino gambling in the no-chewing-gum state – and I know I will be interviewed on this subject since I have already been interviewed twice by phone, once by the Straits Times, once by AP.
If all goes well, Macau will have a serious competitor.
