cashforaccountMemberYeah sure, you can gain some backlinks from directories. This should not be your main strategy but they still do work, just not as good as they once did.
I can imagine that your PR will not increase much but your rankings would, yes.

InactiveDirectory submissions are ok as long as they are done one by one manually. Don’t use an automated software!

Yeah, don’t use automated software or even services. Do it all by hand.

abbykungMemberI completely agree, don’t submit your website to directories in bulk or automatically via software. Also, don’t pay websites to submit your website to 100’s or 1000’s of low quality directories, Google will penalize you big time for these low quality links. This used to work about 5 years ago, but Google has gotten much smarter since then

jbeczekMemberIf you want to improve your backlinks and traffic, you must link/promote your website into different websites such as social bookmarking, article submission sites, social networking, forum, web directories and other helpful site by doing it manually. Using automated submission software is not advisable for seo cause it may harm your site.

biggygMemberEverything in moderation is ok ,when you go crazy with the submissions then you can get in trouble. My best website in terms of revenue has very few backlinks but the ones it has are from other gambling sites. We may buy 5-10 directory listings per year .Our content budget on this website however is over $40,000 a year.

I completely agree, brilliant statement
I’ve learned this lesson the hard way. If you do too many directory submissions, your website may suffer a penalty. Depending on how severe the penalty is, it could take 6 months or 1 year to get your old rankings back. Go for quality instead of quantity, and this also applies for gaining links in general too.July 26, 2011 at 8:22 pm #817665
AletheidesMemberDirectories are PART of a balanced Link Portfolio … you need all types of links to really create an Organic looking Link Portfolio

nocturnalParticipantYes it’s still very helpful. I make sure to submit my websites to newly launched web directoreis every week. Recently I got PR4 for one of my website. I just submitted my website to directories.
