We will have to wait and see eh?
From the coverage that we got here – the Labour option seemed better than keeping Howard in – in terms of foreign policy at least.
I reckon that you’ll finds that they listen pretty hard to financial advice too – we’ve had a “Labour” government here in name for 3 elections – and frankly their fiscal policy has been pretty conservative.
I don’t think that the “old labour” ideals have survived anywhere over the last decade.
Positively, I understand that Australia will now look at at Kyoto agreement with a view to participating ?!!

InactiveThe Republicans said the same thing when Bill Clinton was elected, they were wrong. He (and republican Newt Gingrich) balanced the budget and help fuel the longest economic expansion in US history. In Brasil, Lula, a socialist has strengthed the ecomony by keeping a lid on the government. Let’s hope you turn out to be wrong and they surprise you with a rational approach.
Otherwise, best wishes (maybe Good Luck!, is better) for the next few years:flush:
I’m guessing this change in government has more to do with Iraq than domestic Aussie politics. Another example of how anyone who signs up with George Bush will pay the price at home.
What do you think about the reason for the change?

I hope I am wrong. I hope all the people who voted away from Labor are wrong..
However, 3 members of the Liberal party have since quit and the DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER quit last night too…
That doesn’t look positive… Why would the deputy prime minister quit 2 days after winning the election…?
Something doesn’t seem right..
I don’t think Iraq has anything to do with the change to be honest…
I think the change has a lot to do with young first time voters not remembering what happened last time they were in power, and people voting Labor just because Libs were in for so long..
I think the reason JH didn’t want to sign the Kyoto is something to do with it being a made up number and not reasonable to help the environment. So he had other things in place to help, those that will probably now be scrapped. But don’t quote me on that, I’d have to look it up…
Anything we can do to help the environment is great..
The problem with fuel prices etc… and the GST.. everyone complains about the GST and that Howard said he wouldn’t bring it in.. But i clearly remember him saying that if we re-elect him the GST will be effective from the next financial year. And the reason the GST was supposed to make everything less expensive was because it was supposed to abolish all the state taxes (state was run by Labor BTW) however when the GST came in, Labor refused to get rid of those taxes. So people didn’t see much change.
A lot of people voted for Rudd because they believed he would help the hospitals etc.. but state gov ran hospitals too.. Labor.. so why did he have to be elected as PM to fix that stuff? Why couldn’t he fix it before he was elected..
These are the uninformed decisions I’m talking about.. There are things that Labor should have fixed before they were elected. It didn’t need to come to this to be fixed, but most people don’t know that. People just assume the prime minister controls everything…
Now all the unions are in and they are going to stuff the place too.
Grrr… I hope I’m wrong. And if I am I’ll most certainly eat my words.

voodoomanMemberCome to South Africa and see whats happening in our political landscape.
The ANC is in the process of nominating a new leader for their party and consequently the new future president of the country. Our current president and his predecessor, Nelson Mandela, both have done a superb job. But the new nominee, Jacob Zuma, is scaring all educated people shittless.
Jacob Zuma has been accused of fraud and is still under investigation. He was accused of raping a young woman who suffers from AIDS. When asked in court, by his attorney, why he had had “consensual sex” with a women he new had AIDS he replied that he was not worried because he took a shower afterwards.
Our new president may develop AIDS, if he has not already, during the term of his presidency, may be found guilty of fraud if the National Prosecuting Authority recharge him. So, potentially, our next president might be running the country from a prison hospital bed. Scary stuff.

Welcome to Africa. Just like certain women can’t escape abusive husbands, it seems Africa can’t escape abusive leaders.
