InactiveAs far as I know Google will penalise for spam links – the authority on engine searches can hardly be able to allow sites filled with spam links to climb their rankings!

James I realize that the site with SPAM all over it will not climb in the rankings. But my question was will the spam links targeted by the campaign Stupid pointed out actually hurt us.
For instance, I could create a spammy site and would not expect it to rank.
If I created one and linked to you, how would that hurt you since you don’t have control over the links? If this was possible – then we could easily take out competitors by making spammy sites and linking to them…. I don’t think Google would be stupid enough to let that happen
thoughts?

InactiveTarzan, I`d say it`s impossible to hurt the rankings of an established site by placing spammy links to them however it`s certainly possible to hurt the rankings for some time of a new, not established site that hasn`t yet gained Google`s trust.
What would be a very bad thing to happen to a brand new site without authority backlinks? You`re right, massive amount of unrelated, sitewide spammy links. I`d say such site would be sandboxed pretty soon.
cheers
