InactiveDominique – it is a good rule to never use the “opt out” on any spam. The spammer just uses that to see if your email addy is a live one and then you get tons more spam.
As mentioned by aleph, you can use SpamCop’s free service at http://www.spamcop.net
It terminates a lot of spammers and at the very least it will make you feel better when you report the spammer to thier host etc.

vladcizsolMemberI use mail washer and while it reduces some clutter in Outlook it doesnt stem the tide of SPAM.
So far the most effective solution I have tried is SPAM Arrest. Its well worth the cost if SPAM really bothers you this much.

InactiveThe trouble is that these programs also wipe out the stuff I want to see.
My ISP is wonderful, they have a spam program installed and filter things out. There is no penis enlargement and so on getting through. But they have been advised to let in casino html and they do – unfortunately this is now not confined to aff newsletters and such, but I am getting spammed a lot. My name must have been put on some list and is being sold over and over and over again.

InactiveDominique,
You can contact the companies promoted through the spam. Often times, it’s an affiliate who bought a list or scoured the web with a bot to collect emails.
Most have anti spam clauses in their terms and they will terminate the affiliate’s account on the spot.
And I agree with the others too, do contact spamcop to report them. Many ISPs and email providers block emails listed through spamcop.
Good luck!

InactiveSpam’s a real pain. I had a spam filter on my computer at work for about a year, and I started getting complaints from legitimate customers that they couldn’t get email through to me. So I opted out of the spam filters. Now over 60% of my email is spam of some sort.
But I’m kinda like the Professor. I look at it as market research. Chances are if someone’s spamming me, there’s a reasonable chance I can make a profit promoting a similar product on the web through an affiliate program somewhere.
There should be a spam zeitgeist somewhere, kinda like the Google zeitgeist.
On a related note, I went to college with a young man who’s nickname was “Junkster”. He collected junk mail from odd sources and got on all kinds of mailing lists. (This was before email.) Then he posted the interesting stuff on a bulletin board at the end of the hallway.
Wonder if there’s a market for a similar concept on the web…
Gotta go. Just had an idea!
