I just received a SPAM message today that immediately stunk to high heavens. Firstly I very seldom subscribe / opt-in to newsletter list and when I do I never use this particular email address – I sure would love to know where these SPAMMERS have gotten it!

Anyway the spam came from > gamblingcity.com/?AD=BD

    Hi Bingo Player,
For the best recommendations where to play Bingo online, visit Gambling City.

    Regards
    Graeme Levin
    CEO: Gambling City
GAMBLING CITY for Recommended Gambling Sites, Best Gambling Bonuses, Gambling Community and Casino Promotions

Some may recognize that name – he was the former owner of Gambling.com that passed away in an auto accident. How disrespectful is that – ouch!

The reply resulted in a bounced email so I clicked through to check out the site and was again shocked and a bit curious. I recognized the GC site as it looked identical to another site gamblinggrumbles.com – surely its not the same people as I remember others recommending that site in the past saying they were good guys, but heck I dont know for sure. So I checked the GG site and sure enough its linking to the GC site…

The bottom of the SPAM messages says >

“You received this mailing because you have in the past registered at a World Bingo Network or Bingodrome site.”

NO, I have never joined a bingo site before tough I had registered with a few bingo affiliate programs. Further I thought World Bingo Network was a group of bingo halls and it closed earlier this year?? Has GG/GC purchased an email list from them and/or did they own those halls that closed and didnt pay players/affiliates?

Something just isnt adding up and I’m not ready to blame it on a long night of drinking!

    ===========

EDIT > I just got a message telling me it was Graeme’s son that had passed away and not Graeme, so I guess he is still running the show over on the two sites.

So the experience is not as shocking as it first seemed.

They are SPAMMING none the less!

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

    admin@ gambling-city. org
    retry timeout exceeded

AMAZING HUH? The unsubscribe link is a dead email address … I actually had tried to send directly to it – lot of times clicking that link only verifies your email is live so that they can continue sending SPAM to you.

    What a damn shame!

Arkyt, I can understand your alarm and distaste at getting a message from someone you thought was dead. It was my son, Craig, who was tragically killed in a motor accident.

You received the message because you are on one of the lists I clearly mention in my message. The Bingodrome list is from an operation in which I was a major shareholder and was completely opt-in. The other list is from colleagues in the industry whom I have known for many years.

I have used the lists numerous times already, so everyone on the lists would by now have had ample time to opt out. Perhaps the earlier messages went to your Junk Box.

In any event, I’m really sorry the opt-out email address didn’t work for you. It is certainly a valid address. Perhaps there was a temporary problem. If you still have problems in opting-out, please write to me at graeme at gambling city dot com so I can remove you from the list

Just to alert you, we are sending another mailing today.

To the moderator of this Forum, I think you were a bit hasty in concluding I was spamming. Perhaps you could remove your comment.

Yes Graeme I realized the details after I had originally posted, I am sorry for your loss.

As far as being hasty – nope, I never opted in to your Bingo newsletter or anyone elses for that matter. Several years ago (5+) I had joined a bingo affiliate programs or two, but I have never used the email that was spammed for anything industry related. If my email was provided by one of those programs, then IMO it would still qualify as spamming.

Thus far, I have not received another email from you, so I reckon you used a different list than last time.

I would not have even posted about this spam if I hadn’t first been taken back by what I thought was going on – I should have verfied that first instead of posting – again I am sorry for your loss, but at the end of the day that doesn’t change the fact that I never opted to receive the emails.

edit – I have no issues with the title being changed and/or this thread being deleted. If the thread is kept I would suggest all the email addresses being unlinked or they will start getting hit by the bots.

    Hi Arkyt
Thanks for your reply. Please do send me your details so I can take you off the list.
Good point about unlinking the email addresses.
I meant the Moderator was hasty, not you.

Edit: I’d also be very happy for this thread to be deleted. Thanks Arkyt. I appreciate your suggestion.

    Deleted for what reason?

Posts are only deleted by expressed request of the original author. “You can delete it” is not a request. Short of Arkyt expressedly requesting it, I see no reason to delete this, it does give some interesting information.

I did disable the e-mail addresses.

Dominique, this thread has caused me great distress to have my most grievous loss publicised in this manner. I have, with difficulty, tried to deal with the issues as dispassionately as possible.
Arkyt said he would probably not have posted had he known the facts.

I was relieved when Arkyt said he would have no issue with the thread being deleted. I understand this is not a specific deletion request. Nor was my response that I’d also be happy to have it deleted. As moderator, you have the discretion to keep it up or remove it.

On the question of the spam accusation, I have answered as best I can. The list includes names that are quite old and perhaps over time memory becomes blurred. I believe the list I bought is Opt-in. Out of the 1.06m names on the list, this is the only instance of an accusation of spamming. As I said, I have used the list a number of times already and feel there was ample opportunity to opt out at any point including now. The opt-out address is valid and I’m sorry Arkyt had problems with it.

Arkyt, I’m really sorry for the bother and annoyance caused to you. That certainly wasn’t the intention. Of course I have no idea how you got onto the list, but please let’s get you off it as soon as possible. Thank you for your kind words about Craig.
    Graeme

So be it, I expressly request it at this time.

I do not wish to cause anyone any grief – specially not in this kind. If need be I will pursue this in the future in a new thread – this one has served its purpose and can do nothing now but cause Graeme grief that is not related directly to the spam.
