Steve, Satya is travelling and will not be back until after the Amsterdam conference – that makes it the 10th of April or so.

They should disable the chat of all observers. Only allow people on the table to chat.

I usually have the chat turned off when playing poker, and even if I don’t I rarely have time to read it. Acesup had the best suggestion. I may be in the minority, but even if I am considering using a service, if I am spammed by/for it, that usually makes my decision to look at other alternatives easier.

    Hi guys,

I received this note from Satya:

“I am getting this investigated by our Tech Team and we will definitely curb any kind of spam on PartyPoker.com.”

I would love to post myself, but my connection is very erratic and I am not
being able to post. It will be nice if you can inform this to CAP members on
    my behalf.

It seems the domain name partypokerprophecy.com has not been registered by anyone. But I will definitely get this checked.

I assume that means that partypokerprophecy is not signed with PP.

This must be a very unpleasant situation for PP and I bet they will work on it.

maybe I got the domain name wrong. The spam led me to beleive that if I typed in that – that i’d end up at the site.

I’ll go play a tourney and see if I don’t get spammed. they’re pretty good about covering territory. It shouldn’t take me too long to confirm the name.

In response to shutting off chat; well to me that is not the option I’d want to choose, as I very much like chatting with SOME of the players; others of course, I wish I could never hear.

And speaking from what I have observed; it appears that there are quite a few people who know each other; that actually stop in to where the game is going on; to just say hello to each other; or to brag about their latest big win.

These people I’m sure don’t want to give up what they’ve got now; and I’d bet that PP doesn’t want things to come to that either. People join poker rooms for more reasons than just because they have a lot of players. As time goes by, PP will see a leveling out of their current big crowd. or perhaps better said, they will see their competitor’s numbers catching up.

That I think should be expected when you take into consideration what a boom PP has enjoyed recent years. In fact, I think its unavoidable.

But if things are allowed to degenerate to the point where players have to shut off all outside chat in order to be able to escape the spam, that IMHO will be a good way to lose the kind of players that again IMHO; an owner would want the most.

*sidenote: I tried making this point to Prima Poker via CR: as Prima is excellent in alienating these types of players. It remains to be seen if they make any changes, but judging from my income from Prima, I’d say they’ve done nothing to improve the status quo.

Okay, just got spammed again, the domain was

    xhttp://www.pokerprophecy.com

the name of the person doing it was

    MediumPepsi

Its obvious to me that whoever is behind this, is often changing their nickname at Party.

because it always seems to be a different person but they are usually spamming the same site.

    the spam goes

“is the person to your right a fish? complete win/loss records of any player at Party Poker.”

then it gives the domain name.

    Good luck on this Satya.

yep, there’s a lot of it going on.

…. Aces, was that you that beat me out of the remainding 2 spots in my single table tourney?

:) well I cussed you anyway. As my Dad used to say when giving me a beating, “if you didn’t deserve it for that: then you surely did for something else ….”

    lol.

well here’s what I’ve been told is going on with these places spamming party’s players stats.

that these places uses bots to watch every game, thus accumulating stats on all those that play for real money. That because the bots can keep signing up using different info; that PP can’t keep them out; so rather than fight the impossible, they’ve chosen to agree to some kind of working relationship with these places, of which I’m told there are about 30, and basically turn lemons into lemonade.

now that may be completely wrong. Just what I was told by some players in PP.

the only real bitch I have if any of the above is true; aside from the fact that personally, I don’t think its anybody else’s business what my past play has been, and I don’t like it one bit this info is being allowed out; but I guess as long as I can have access to your past, its a trade-off; but what really bothers me is why can’t PP just come out and say they know what’s going on, and its okay. So I didn’t waste my valuable time reporting the spammers, doing what i thought was damn favor. I feel the very least they could have done in return was to tell me that I need not bother.

    Don’t you think?

now that may be completely wrong. Just what I was told by some players in PP.

I would definitely take that with a grain of salt.

I used to play a lot at Pogo, which has chat. People were offering all kinds of bots for sale, promising huge wins at pogo, talking about how pogo secretly supported them and so on.

People just like to pull a fast one on others. They may be sitting someplace laughing their heads off about gullible people.

What I am saying, in a chat room of any type, you never know. I tend to think all of it is BS.

well I would have to; except for the fact that it seems funny that so much of this spam is allowed to go on.

    Surely it hurts PP.

And then there’s the what they said that makes sense; these places are in some way, accumulating these stats.

Why is this allowed to happen? Does PP have control over their own stats info; or not?

then after thinking it over; it does make sense that perhaps they cannot stop the bots from entering and keeping track of the games.

its either that, or they are in cahoots with these sites.

I mean, can you think of any other reason why the players history can so easily be obtained by an outside source?

    Steve,
The player stats are public information. These sites go thru a lot of trouble to collect them. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with collecting stats and providing them back to your players to increase their edge. However, spamming at the tables is against Party’s chat policies. I once reported a table spammer, and the spammer’s account was disabled for chat for one month as a warning. I was told that if he did it again, his account would be closed. So, there are ways to stop the spammers. Report them.

    bb1webs,

They are using software like pokertracker. Anyone can buy the software and it will keep track of the info for as many games as you have open, even if your not playing. I have it and used it when I played more to track my own play. Costs less than $100.

thanks for the heads up guys.

    very interesting stuff.

So I guess if a person wanted to run a poker site, they’d be a step ahead to buy this software and then provide a search on your site that will return the player’s stats history, huh?

sounds like a lot of work, but probably doable for the right persons.

I’ve never visited pokerprophecy, since i refuse to support spam even if it is a subject as interesting as this is to me.

I wonder do they charge for this service on that site? Or perhaps they sell the software spoken of above?

Dean, Ellen? Enquiring mind wants to know? (in case you don’t have the national enquirer over there, thats a slogan :) ),

what about the rest of you? Ace? PM? are you going to try and offer this to your surfers?

If anybody knows; what would it cost to have something like the software you spoke of; integrated into a search box you could have on your site which would return the specified player’s history?

also, does this software track when someone changes their nickname?

thanks in advance for your replies.

I have never been to the prophecy site and like you, probably never will but I think I remember reading about it on 2+2. They have been using pokertracker or something like it 24/7 on many computers to harvest the play data on as many tables at Party as they can keep open. They have amassed a huge database and are selling it. The last time I checked, it had no way of tracking name changes.

To do something like this would be resource and time intensive.

If a player only plays a certain level (10/20 or 15/30 etc.) then he/she can basically do the same thing, but on a much smaller sample size. Of course when playing, even if you aren’t playing 4 tables, keep 4 open and when you aren’t playing keep 4 open and the software will continuously track. Doing this 24/7 for a couple weeks within a certain limit will amass a large database of players you are likely to be playing against.

I offer the pokertracker software through a link on my site and have a review of it that reccomends it. I have no plans to go any further than that. I will say that anyone who plays poker online for more than fun should absolutely try it, if only to analize your own game. It is a great tool. They have a free 30 day trial download (no CC or anything else required.)
