I believe that part of the problem is that the people running our government are mostly from the older generation that most often don’t even know how to use a mouse, let alone a computer.

They are not educated enough to investigate or even think of these sorts of things. Even if they hired someone to do their work, they wouldn’t be able to hire a qualified person because they don’t know what to look for.

For example, look at the new law they are trying to pass – stop cc companies from giving money to online casinos. Well, how many people even use credit cards anymore? Most people use 3rd party payment processors. They are behind by a few years with this law too.

It’s a pretty silly reason to begin with. Online casinos aren’t even interested in underage gamblers, as they don’t happen to have a lot of expendable income, plus I would bet the one’s that have stolen their parents credit cards end up becoming chargebacks anyway. It wouldn’t be all that difficult to check someone’s true age prior to letting them deposit.

Congress definitely is way behind in what technology is capable of. His other point about there are many more addicted gamblers due to online gambling is like saying there are more pedophiles because of the internet. You know what, there were the same number of pedophiles before, and it is the internet that is providing a means to catching them. As for addicted gamblers, how easy would it be to regulate the industry and put triggers in place to identify an addicted gambler and offer them help. Think the land-based casinos have a way of doing this?

First is a soapbox thumping ass, plain and simple….

Once again, he is attempting to have the government to step in to control something that parents SHOULD be doing automatically. If the people that he represents need the government to control what their kids do online, then shame on them, AND him!
