InactiveBottom line is, as our friend Mr Frist put it, is that online gambling is illegal in the US. Always has been.
If you have portals etc based in the US and you are registered for business in the US there are provisions in the law to treat you as an ‘illegal betting house’. Even if your sites are hosted offshore if you are registered in the US the grey area is fast becoming a black area and you have to make a choice whether to pack in or go underground.
If you want to go underground find non-US hosts and end your visible gambling businesses in the US because they will come after you eventually. It is too late now – they have opted for prohibition over regulation and it will be many years before any tries to change that. There is no money in it for the government and it just won’t be a vote winner, bible bashers far outnumber poker players.
If you want to keep your site and focus on non-US players move it abroad if it isn’t there already and don’t declare that you have anything to do with it business wise – it will have to be black market. You’ll need to go offshore or find someone willing to run the financial/business side of it offshore for you.
If anyone’s interested I can help with that. Am also looking at some very interesting alternative ideas for funding for US players. The last probition made some people very rich indeed…

InactiveWell, first I shall have another cup of coffee.
Then I will read as much as I can absorb.
Then I will wait for the professional legal opinions to come in later this week.

I tend to agree with wait and see but if the sites refuse US players, what does legal opinions have to do with it?

yorktownMemberIsn’t there something called a line item veto? Doesn’t Pres Bush have the option the strike the Gambling language from the bill and pass the security measures that really matter? This would force congress to actually debate the issue and override the veto.
Of course, if he does have that authority, he’d probably never do it. Unless he received 10 million emails over the next few weeks.
Let Mr. President know how you feel (be nice):
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500202-456-1111
Unconstitutional?
That makes sense. Lawmakers can put unreasonable stuff on legislation, but the Pres cannot take it off. Fruckin figures!

InactiveThe line item veto was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme court in 1998, and Bush would not strike it down anyways

InactiveAll this reminds me of a song called “Panic” by the Smiths back in the 80’s.
“Panic” (updated)
Panic on the streets of Boston
Panic on the streets of Washington
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be same again ?
The LA side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the Hill
But Honey Pie, you’re not safe here
So you run on
To the safety of Amazon
But there’s Panic on the streets of New York
Portland, Vegas, Florida
I wonder to myselfBurn down the portal
Hang the blessed DoJ
Because the nonsense they constantly display
IT SAYS NOTHING TO ME ABOUT MY LIFE
Hang the blessed DoJ
Because the nonsense they constantly displayHang The DoJ, Hang The DoJ (to fade)
Anyway, personally I wouldn’t be too hastyto make a decision – see how it pans out as Dom says over the next few days and then decide.

Everything else comes after that and I will just work with what I have and what I can do while being in full compliance..

InactiveIts too bad we cant get some media attention. Like that o’riely guy, I watch him, he really is in the center, not like hannity and some of those talk radio guys.
Im serious, Im not good at it, but can someone out there put together a good, respectfull , email, have 2 or 3 days to get a bunch of us to sign it, send it to him and lets see if he will read it online. I know its crazy, but why not? I really think that guy is ok, he might go for it and at least read it. It should be brief and to the point.
And you know what else. Where the heck is the UCLA, they protect kiddie porn as freedom of speach, but not this.
You know what I think our problem is, we are preaching to the choir.
Come on, someone who is good at letter writting. lets not sit on our butts, lets get this to the public some how.
Im open for ideas as well, but I dont think this is a bad one
