tricia111MemberHi Renne,
Thanks, that will come in useful. I’m by no means a photoshop wiz, but I do know how to crop. Still it takes time, and Photoshop CS3 is a heavy program, so when I have a thousand windows open at the same time, and I pop that PS, my computer craws. Nice to know this tool exists.

EyeOfTheTigerMemberAw I checked it for a second, then realized I was still running XP. There are a variety of third party screenshot programs out there that work great too. If you’re still running XP, http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/tips/screenshot.mspx offers a good solution. I always knew the “printscreen” function, but didn’t realize ALT+printscreen just snagged the active window. WIN!

InactiveI have also been using SnagIt for years, but it’s becoming harder and harder to find a free version when you get new computers :sarcasm:
Thought I would post this anyway.. For a regular screen shot it’s actually must faster than using SnagIt. If you want to get into the more serious stuff like capturing video and cursors and delayed capturing etc, then SnagIt is definitely my recommendation and I think you can find it at download dot com.

Gyrnikol007MemberI use gadwin print screen.. pretty cool tool, just install, press the PRTSCN button and it’ll save your screen capture for you in the folder you specify automatically, it captures just the active screen..

arturs.vitolsMemberor if you want to start off by making a smart decision, get a mac. then you can hit apple+shift+4 and it gives you a selection area that you can drag to any size.

EyeOfTheTigerMemberGetting a mac is NOT a smart decision!

arturs.vitolsMemberHaha, I’m not actually one of those mac guys. I use a mac here at work for editing and at home I’ve got a tablet PC this is probably on its last leg. I’m so familiar with windows, but mac does have some appeal. Whenever that PC dies I’m going to have a tough choice on my hand.
This work computer is crazy though, I have terabites of storage 16GB of memory and external processing drives. I can edit HD video in real time. Meanwhile my home computer is at 1.1MGHZ of prcoessing power.
