Guestwhat I never understood is (at least to me) there are certain sites which obviously have the same things / theme … sure maybe some promote 888, some CR …. but they’re all basically glorified casino lists. (not looking to argue, okay yours has info not found anywhere else)
why is it when the algos reach a certain level of distinction on the possible results do they not rotate the results so that everybody who is legitimately worthy of holding top position … get a chance.
its smart economics. you let someone monopolize and you get less variety and in the end less quality at higher prices.
I mean there are certain searches that are obviously going to have tons of relevant results. insurance, car, gambling, porn … almost all the niches known to be profitable to at least some extent are going to have a ton of relevant sites. By not rotating they are essentially rewarding those for being better at the thing google wants us to not concentrate on.
stupid.

If they did that, it would be admitting that there is no single perfect/best search result and of course the reason to use google/yahoo/etc. is to get the best results.
A perfect example was how google was rankiing an anti semetic/neo nazi website for “jew”. When people complained, google said “they can’t filter search results, an alogrithm …. blah, blah blah”. Yep google can’t remove offensive sites from results, but if you’re a site cloaking or if you have too many links to or from bad site, affiliate links etc. you can be banned/filtered for that.
So BB1, if they ever let people think that a variety of results were a good thing, it would have the effect of saying that there is more than one way to return search results. Google needs to be “unique”, distinct, etc. to make sure their stock starts going back up.

Keywords are an overrated part of the SEO process, but, if you must use them, keywords that is, go for people’s usernames from your forum, or maybe for the words ‘click here’ those seem popular
hehe.October 29, 2008 at 12:58 pm #784547Anonymous
Inactive“click here” is indeed a very popular keyword.

hehe.i think you are missing the point here. content by itself is not SEO. optimized content, website hierarchy, linking structure, etc is SEO. SEO is a form of using the search engine’s specs to improve the searches for a site technically using the same content as before. you can even go as far as saying that SEO is a form of manipulation of search engine results…which comes back to my first post that SEO is bullshit. in a good sense of course

InactiveI got what you were saying.. just some light hearted teasing
.I first really started to learn SEO basics when I started toying with google adsense. For instance, if you plop adsence into a fairly new VBulletin forum, your ads are mostly going to be for forums, CMS systems etc ..
Add more words.. get more ads.. but a quick way to get real targeted ads real fast was markup the content using basic SEO markups, bold keywords, add htags.. etc.
It’s what the spiders understand. Maybe their algo is bs, but can we really afford to ignore it?
I mean the linking that’s good for user and G alike imo, it’s what the internet was intended to be, a bunch of interlinked (webbed if you will) information.
The tagging does often take some thought. For instance the words ‘click here’ shouldn’t be in bold. You could make them red or arial blac to draw attention, but you will have to be SEO Aware to get that. But the headline tags don’t just say HEY GOOGLE THIS IS WHAT THIS PAGE IS REALLY ABOUT!!!! They also tell the user what the page is about, they break up long boring pages..
So I don’t think it’s BS, in fact, I find it super fascinating and could go on all day… but I also don’t think it’s an exact science, and often times, it aint perfect man.
