I have no one to recommend, but I can tell you who not to choose:

Never go with an SEO company that promises to bring your gambling site to the top ten.

It cannot be done just like that.

    Also be careful of this:

One common scam is the creation of “shadow” domains that funnel users to a site by using deceptive redirects. These shadow domains often will be owned by the SEO who claims to be working on a client’s behalf.

However, if the relationship sours, the SEO may point the domain to a different site, or even to a competitor’s domain. If that happens, the client has paid to develop a competing site owned entirely by the SEO.

Learn to do it yourself. I found out the hard way.

I hired someone, who is actually very prominent in the SEO arena and writes for several of the big seo sites. I had several terms and payment was subject to getting my site to rank in the top 10 for any of 10 terms (I think it was 10 terms). I paid what I was supposed to pay and the final payment was the one subject to this stipulation.

Instead – he took all my sites down (because he had FTP access) and I had to re-do a LOT of my content because he either didn’t store it properly or was just mad. We solved it amicably, but I still lost lots of time setting up my forums again as well as other little things that cropped up.

In the end – learn it.

Some people on this forum directed me to Aaron Wall’s SEO Book, and I purchased it and it was a great purchase. I think this is a must-read whether you hire someone or do it yourself. I was so glad people told me about it, so thought I’d pass it on.

If you have time, it’s better to take the time to learn. Some things change, but correct organization and structure will help you a little. Be careful with those easy tricks, because they can be great for a while, and dump you before you know it.
And remember that you are responsable for what the SEO company does in your site. It’s your site that can be banned.

Aaron’s Ebook is one of the best ways to get started in SEO, in my opinion.

Aaron does a really good job of explaining SEO to beginners. But what I think is even more important is that he keeps up with the Search Engines and keeps his Ebook customers informed on the current trends in SEO.

Disclaimer – If you ‘googled’ my name, you’ll know that I do personally know Aaron (I knew him before he was an SEO…when he was just a peanut butter freak).

My point is, I don’t make a dime when he sells an ebook, but I still recommend it very highly.

I have seo many sites. I wouldn’t call myself an expert my own sites are a exception to good seo for security reasons. Hiring a company can be very expensive, and can potentially comprimize your site security. greek39

Well, I have been called an “SEO expert” many times over the years, but I don’t think such a really thing exists.

As someone that has indepth knowledge of the SEO biz, there is not one single SEO company that I would recommend to anyone I liked that had a small/medium website. (Sorry Bruce!)

All the ‘good’ SEOs learned a long time ago that it is far easier and way more profitable to only work for yourself and promote your own sites. If you can make someone else a pile of money, you should be able to make yourself a bigger pile…

I have always looked at a very large part of the SEO business much like those guys on the TV infomercials that will tell you how to make millions for $49.95… If these guys can really make millions why are they wasting their time selling the info to you for pennies???

The question always comes to my mind is; Why should I tell you how I make my money? if I tell you, your just one more person I have to compete with…

The only time I see an SEO firm being of any use at all is for very large sites and they usually do SEO inhouse and/or hire SEO consultants. IMO there are only two or three SEO firms that are capable of handling large corporate accounts like that.

I quess learn it, understand it, apply it. If you go deep into seo you will find some very interesting stuff. Stuff a book cannot provide, the best way is either learn it on your own or hire a consultant. There are many companies that just love ripping people off. greek39

Yep, exactly. Makes no sense at all.

Unless they make even more money selling those books… or they really have earned some money, but things lately are slower, and they want an extra income from what they have learned. Remember also another thing: most of those books advertise affiliate programs, so they will earn when you earn :)
In these (almost) last 10 years I tried every way of making money on the web. Maybe someday I’ll write something too. Especially the mistakes I did…

For guys like Aaron Wall, the book gives him credibility to be able to charge higher consulting fees, and it draws traffic / clients to his doorstep.
