InactiveThey are punishing sites that sell “Do Follow” links to boost the PR or serps of the buying site. Buying and selling “no follow” links is fine.. so they say.

InactiveIf the site that is “giving/selling” the link is featured on a well known ad selling site like text-link-ads, then they might assume the worst. Also if the “selling” site is adding and removing a lot of links on a regular basis, then that might ring some alarm bells. I’ve also heard that they don’t immediately give full credit to links. There is some sort of waiting period before any value is given to the link. The reasoning behind it is that paid ads usually aren’t permanent and expire a few weeks/months after they appear.

MissMMemberFrom what I read I shouldn’t be worried about a couple of sold links.

mamidoMemberI must admit I do tend to ignore advertising approaches made from gmail accounts. Perhaps I am just paranoid!
Realistically there are probably some patterns/systems by which they look out for non-natural links. And there are likely to be many sites that are blacklisted for being very blatant (and high volume). But most of the rest is going to go unnoticed. Quality/Relevant in-content links (at a low volume) are probably the best way to go.
