    Since the advent of the do not call list in the US that has helped tremendously with the volume of phone calls I get, but still I get one occasionally. Usually I cut them off very quickly by interrupting their spill and saying I’m not interested in whatever you are selling and remove me from your call list. It’s not unusual to get hung up on. :roflmao: If they keep on talking, I just hang up.
    Occasionally I will make a call myself to inquire about some product or service and there is nothing that is more of a turn off that some arrogant pushy salesperson.
    Actually I don’t want to be approached unless I’m the one who initiates the contact.
    NO I absolutely would not work for any company that promoted themselves by trickery or taking advantage of someone.

    Here is my own quick little story. I used to work as a administrative assistant for a small business. The owner would sometimes purchase certain supplies from a company in California. Most of the time the salesperson was the one who would contact the owner by phone. Of course I was the one who answered the phone 95% of the time when he called. He would phone and ask for the owner by name and if he wasn’t available I would of course say, “I’m sorry but he isn’t available right now, may I take a message. This salesman…..(which is not the name I had for him) :sarcasm: would hang up on me just as soon as I said the owner wasn’t available and before I could get the rest of the sentence completed. Time after time he did this and of course after a few times I started being able to recognize his voice. So one day he phones………instead of my usual. I say to him, do you have a minute? He is taken aback and mumbles, I guess. I ask him, how long have you been doing sales by phone. He tells me several years. I said to him……..well it looks like by now that you would have learned some manners and have you ever considered that it might be to your benefit to not hang up on me. After all I AM the gate keeper and if you are nice to me, I’ll make it a lot easier for you to speak with the owner. Please remember this next time you call or perhaps the owner might not ever have time to speak with you again. lol He did not hang up on me again and and he said please and thank you from then on. :hattip:

    I’ve been conned to many times to count so I’ve learned to just say I’m not interested after the first few words and if they keep talking I hang up.

    My last ‘mistake’ of trusting a cold call resulted in me paying $795 for my condo to be listed/sold with Realty Trade. Being that they gave a six month money back guarantee and I used my AmEx Business Platinum I was cool with it. End result was they never found a single buyer and six months is to long to go to AmEx asking for a charge back.

    Thanks to them using their sales tactic of ‘six month money back guarantee’ I no longer trust anyone that tries to sell me anything period.

    It’s just really funny how people try to “get in the door” So I guess relating it to our industry, i was thinking about how most feel about what are the right ways and wrong ways to get in the door, what comes across as pushy and what is considered a good idea type of conversation.

    I think the casino industry’s ‘sales tactic’ of offering a deposit bonus with a ‘hidden’ playthru term is one that will eventually backfire on them.

    The ‘bonus’ seems like a good idea in the beginning until you figure out how the bonus affects your play and payout.

    I think they should operate more like the land based casinos where you don’t expect to get a ‘bonus’ or be required to keep your money in the machine longer than you feel comfortable with.

    so I take it you never got your money back on the six month guarantee?

    How did they manage to explain that one away? Or did they just disappear?

    I totally agree with the bonus schemes being something that will at best be seen for what they have become, a way to purchase time to play casino games for real money.

    That’s about all they are any more what with the play-through requirements and choice of games being restricted. I understand the need for all this and its not a terribly bad idea when used properly but most casinos, even some of the more reputable ones, have T&Cs which are very tough to realistically meet and I fear one day that’ll be used as ammo against current casinos by … oh I don’t know … Vegas?

    Nah. They wouldn’t do that. Not some place that would run commercials like “it all stays here in Vegas”.

    Everything is remembered on the net. That’s the first rule I learned. That’s why its so important to think out any questionable actions before you take them.

    Some RTGs I noticed have T&Cs which state they can only pay the player a maximum of .. I think it was $2k .. either per week or per month. *that might be tied up in a bonus scheme and i think in fact that it is.

    That’s not going to go over well either if looked back upon by those who will at that time have VERY credible names offering online games, from which to choose. Names that CAN and WILL pay all winners in such a timely fashion it’ll make the best ones nowadays look mediocre.

    I sincerely doubt you’ll ever see Vegas telling you the most they can pay per week or month is a lousy 2 grand. Bonus scheme or not.

    Nope, I never got my money back and when I call them they give me the run around and outright lie to me. My husband will be paying them a visit in their office the next time we go stay at our condo in Orlando this winter and he can be quite intimidating at 6’4″ and 250 pounds so we will see how that goes. LMAO

    Re. (1) above, I hate “hard sell” with a passion. All that crap about “getting rich”, “higher placement” and “sending us lots of players”….click, click, delete.

    Re (2) above, and perhaps strangely, unless it’s an affiliate manager I know well from conferences, dinner (whatever) I generally prefer communications from affiliate programs that are “bulk” emails about stuff happening, news, promos, ideas etc. That way there’s no pressure, personal replies aren’t required to every email etc etc.

    As for (3), no way! No-one denies money is a useful commodity, but when they are that desperate you just know where you lie in the food chain. The current situation with 888 sums it up nicely.

    PS. Not quite OT but I agree strongly with GamTrak. Bonuses are the scourge of this industry, although the industry only has itself to blame.

    Snap! I don’t care who they are or what they’re selling – it’s soo unlikely that they have an offer that would even interest me. It’s cold calling. Usually I say “no thanks” and hangup in one motion without waiting to hear their response … CLICK!

    But occasionally (if they’ve called at an inconvienient time) I’ll say “oh hold on you need to talk to John” and bring the phone back into the familiy area and put it down where we are having dinner or watching TV whatever.

    The sales person can hear activity (is that John coming to the phone now?) but no-one is ever coming back to the phone. I wonder how long they hold on to the call for (spending their money!) before hanging up.

    well there goes any ideas I had of mis-behaving when/if we ever meet. I figure I got a hug coming from everybody here … and I might take advantage of that …

    but I think you’re officially safe. … unless of course he’d be a sport and give me a head start running. :)

    Speaking of cold calling, does anybody know what the precedure is for getting on that no-call list in the states? and if it works the same for every state?

    I might go research this later .. so nobody has an answer you might come back and check later and I’ll post what I found

    ROTFLMAO! YOU are definately good for a hug Steve! Actually he is a great sport about me traveling to the conferences all by myself and hanging out with a bunch of guys until the wee hours of the morning so I think he will give you that head start. :tongue:



    Another ‘sales tactic’ that I do not care for is when an affiliate manager acts like they are doing you a favor by offering a huge CPA and make YOU feel like an idiot for not jumping at the offer. :sarcasm:

    Some of the affiliate contests IMO are not very well thought out and for some others I would belive the results more if they listed the specs for the win or more than just a first name and initial of the last name.

    If they are going for the most depositors then I want to know what number it took to win and have a look at the site that won to see what they are doing that may be different from me.
