InactiveA good number of webmasters use Really Simple Syndication feeds I do not. The feeds have many variants I consider to be highly exploitable. Meaning in simple terms jeopardize you, your website in one form or another.
This is however a personal choice, for me its a risk not worth taking. It will not delvuldge how this is done, but one can find the answer but searching for it.
Perhaps getting a second opinion would help. greek39

InactiveI have 3 rss feeds on my site withh 3 articles each… you think its too much? And will SE “punish” you or reward you (rankings) for using it?

InactiveI have RSS feeds and it has never affected me adversely. I don’t believe many people subscribe to them either. They are fairly useless, IMO…. However, since mine are on automatic via either WordPress or of my own making – I am not too worried
They do not cause me any extra work.July 30, 2006 at 8:25 am #700417Anonymous

RSS feeds have zero affect on PR. Links from other sites is the way to get PR.As for serp’s, it can help bring some traffic.. don’t expect much.

InactivemisterDH wrote:^^ But doesnt it “trick” the SE spider to think that my site updates often? It doesn’t “trick” spiders, it does mean your site is updated often. On the other hand, your site is updated with RSS feeds that are being generated by a third party.. a third party that feeds many others, so your rss feeds are far from being unique.

InactiveOn the one hand, plenty of blogs and forums and whatnot feature RSS feeds without making the gods of searches too angry, but take into consideration that 3 feeds of unoriginal content can be pretty risky.
If you can balance these feeds with original content, that can be okay (although you should consider letting one go), but if that’s the only way you keep your website updated than that could be a problem.
SEO is anything but exact science. A colleague of mine likes to say it’s 1/3 intuition, 1/3 superstition and 1/3 pure ambition

BTW – My last response was assuming you are CREATING the rss feeds from your own content. I do not use RSS feeds from other sources on my websites. I don’t like that much as it typically doesn’t serve any purpose to the surfer (my opinion only)

InactiveRSS feeds are must if your website publishes news; otherwise – it’s waste of time.

Moreover,
1. RSS consumes bandwidth and bandwidth costs money.2. You can’t perdict the exact keywords/content the feed will contain.
3. If your website is on a busy server and/or the server that serves the RSS feed to your server is busy. your website will load very slowly.
4. Considering the above, either using the news space for an extra ad or text can end up with your site loading on optimal speed and converting better.
Hope that helps.

They actually provide a simple, elegant solution to various technical problems. My guess is they will be used more and more in the background & users will not necessarily know they are being used.
