InactiveI agree. I have all my domains registered there and they are geting worse and worse. I use privacy protection so that people don’t try to call me directly (I was getting all sorts of affiliate programs trying to seduce me to promote them via tele).
They couldn’t even get it right. I would post on their ‘support’ thingy and they would respond – it is working now and CLOSE the support request. It never has worked on many of my sites and I get this same ‘support’ each time even if I explain to them and prove that it isn’t working! They still make a 1 sentence response and close the stupid support case.
All my future registrations will be elsewhere. For sure!

vladcizsolMemberThanks for the heads up. I am moving this to the “Domains” section, it will be visible there much longer and hopefully others will not have problems with this Registrar after reading your warning.

Inactivei had a similar problem with register fly. they were terrible and i will never use them again.

InactiveI agree.
I still have some domains with them, but they keep sending renewal reminders for domains which I moved to a new registrar some time ago. They ought to know which domains are registered with them, and which aren’t.
I like idotz.net for domain registrations.

InactiveAny suggestions for reputable Registars?
August 29, 2006 at 8:13 pm #703892Anonymous
InactiveI completely agree. Registerfly are, without doubt, the worst registrar I have *EVER* had the misfortune to deal with – and I’ve dealt with LOTS.
One of my domains was reg’d elsewhere. They closed up and sold the domains to registerfly who proceeded to change the whois so MY domain was reg’d in THEIR name – and then deny I had any ownership of it!
It took an ICANN complaint to get it reg’d back into my name and for registerfly to ‘find’ my ownership of the domain.
I obviously wanted nothing more to do with them after that and so decided to move the domain elsewhere. OMG – what a nightmare THAT was!
Registerfly suck.

InactiveOh, and in addition to all the above – even AFTER I managed to get the domain transferred to a reputable registrar, registerfly tried to bill me for the domain’s renewal which they no longer had!

InactiveI’m glad we’re getting this warning out there. I guess I’m not surprised by the tone of the respones. From what I’ve read at some other sites, registerfly is only getting worse. I’ve read that one of the hardest things to do is to ‘move’ your domain to another registrar.
As for good registrars? Well, my experience with NameCheap has been quite pleasant so far. Their site appication seems to work perfectly, their affordable and they have whois protection. Hopefully that will continue.
While I’m at it, I would also like to warn people about a domain registration scam that has been getting worse. Basically, some people have had their desired domain name snatched out from under them before they can complete a transaction. It’s a simple scam, but the roots of it are devious and cloaked. I first found out about this from the forum at dnsstuff. They have a warning about it. So, be careful where you search for your names!
If you are interested in that thread, goto dnsstuff and look under their General forum for a post entitled:
WARNING: Somebody might be spying on WHOIS searches – mind blowing but true!!!August 30, 2006 at 12:42 am #703925Anonymous
InactiveI have two domains with them, and I can say that my experience is normal.
I don’t think they are scamers.
Yes, they have serious fails with the support and tickets are answered many days after the submission.A lot of bad press about Rfly at webhostingtalk, but until I know no one person may proof a real scam from this company.
Anyway I do not recommend this company.
There are better options.Namecheap: It is a reseller. Not ICANN
Having a good time with dynadot.

InactiveICANN should mean something, but it doesn’t mean much from my experience. There are a lot of scamming or fly by night operations that get ICANN certified. There’s a lot of debate about it.
I still recommend NameCheap if you are on a budget and want whois guard. If you MUST have ICANN, then I would HIGHLY recommend PairNIC. But they don’t have a whois guard and they cost more. But they are rock solid as a company and you can trust them.

InactiveICANN are next to useless. I really wish they were more like the UK’s Nominet who actually DO something.
ICANN told me: “We forward problem-reports as a courtesy to the sponsoring registrar for assistance, ICANN does not resolve individual customer service complaints.”
So they’re NOT here to help anyone.

QUOTE]This is the list of ICANN operators.
xxxxhttp://www.icann.org/registrars/accredited-list.htmlCould you please tell me which of this companies are involved in fly by night/scams.
Do not copy and paste vague posts from other forums.
Very odd comment. there are requeriments to achieve the ICANN accreditation.August 30, 2006 at 8:58 pm #704065Anonymous
InactiveLook, I agree with FictionNet regarding ICANN. I should have said ‘allegedly’ with regards to shady ICANN members. I don’t want to get into a huge thing about ICANN in this thread. This thread is a warning about my experience with RegisterFly – who still, as of this post, have yet to even reply to me regarding being wrongly charged more than once.
I recommend taking the time to read the thread I mentioned above on dnsstuff. It’s a fairly long thread, so I’m not going to comb through it for info to post here. I’ve done my research already. I don’t have time to do it again.

InactiveI’m a client with them since 2002, but I’m moving all my best domains away… unfortunately I spent a small fortune transferring most of them (I still have 80 domains with them).
They are no longer too cheap, and their system has many flaws. I already lost a domain with them… the system said it would expire next year, but it was wrong…
